Treatment

Presently I am having hormone treatment to shrink prostate. After that I am opting to go to toronto to have HIFU treatment. My cancer is early stage so it can be done. Might be worth your while to check on this on internet. HIFU treatment for prostate cancer. It is less invasive laser with fewer side effects.skip

Hifu Treatment

HIFU is now available in England and I will be having this treatment next month. My PSA is 4.3, Gleason 6. Would appreciate comments and experiences of anyone who has had HIFU treatment.

Hifu

I just saw your message and read that you are going to England. I have similar Gleason score and PSA. Would I be correct to assume that HIFU is not yet accepted in the US by the FDA, or is it there are not yet enough doctors accepting or trained sufficiently here in the states?

Hifu Treatment

HIFU treatment has now been accepted for use in the UK where I live. Not sure what the situation is in the US. Americans seem to go to Canada for treatment. Good luck.

Hifu

Does the UK have an equivalent to the US's FDA (Food & Drug Admin.)in regards to new treatments? Do you know if it is widely accepted by all doctors (urologists) or is it just a select few?
I would be interested in knowing how you do in this procedure. Please let me know!
Thanks,
Doug D.

Hifu in uk

Yes, UK does have an equivalent of the FDA. It is called the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and their website is www.nice.org.uk. They published their report accepting HIFU for use in the UK health service in March 05. You will be able to read it on their website. Best wishes. Keith

Hifu in uk

Keith,
Thanks for responding to my email. I will check out the UK website. Keith, had you investigated the other known treatments available before choosing HIFU? Although early in my search for an alternative cure, it seems HIFU is one of the least invasive procedures available, as the idea of radiation seeds is slightly un-nerving, but it would be my second choice at this point.
Take care,
Doug D.

Hifu Treatment

Hello Douglas. Only just read your message of last Nov. My treatment has been delayed until early April, and yes I thoroughly researched all other treatment options before deciding on HIFU. Although it is still a fairly new procedure it is proving a popular choice and results so far show it is as effective as other treatments but with fewer side-effects. I'll let you know how my treatment goes. Have you been treated yet? Good luck.
