After that I am opting to go to toronto to have HIFU treatment. My cancer is early stage so it can be done. Might be worth your while to check on this on internet. HIFU treatment for prostate cancer. My PSA is 4.3, Gleason 6. Would appreciate comments and experiences of anyone who has had HIFU treatment. Would I be correct to assume that HIFU is not yet accepted in the US by the FDA, or is it there are not yet enough doctors accepting or trained sufficiently here in the states? Douglas Sat, 26 Nov 2005 00:00:00 GMT Yes, UK does have an equivalent of the FDA. It is called the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and their website is www.nice.org.uk. They published their report accepting HIFU for use in the UK health service in March 05. You will be able to read it on their website. Best wishes. Keith, had you investigated the other known treatments available before choosing HIFU? Although early in my search for an alternative cure, it seems HIFU is one of the least invasive procedures available, as the idea of radiation seeds is slightly un-nerving, but it would be my second choice at this point. My treatment has been delayed until early April, and yes I thoroughly researched all other treatment options before deciding on HIFU. Although it is still a fairly new procedure it is proving a popular choice and results so far show it is as effective as other treatments but with fewer side-effects.
