Enzymatic Therapy

I am new to this having only recently been diagnosed with Large B Cell, Diffused, NHL, Stage II. I attended Dr. Dalzell"s presentation in Green Bay, WI a few weeks back and learned a lot about nutrition and supplements and what they can do for me.
A friend gave me a bottle of Enzymatic Therapy Cell Forte' with IP-6 & Inositol whose label indicates that it is a dietary supplement which enhances natural killer cell activity.
Has anyone heard of this? Has anyone tried this? My friend tells me that his mother used it and it reduced the size of her tumor. They have also used it on a family cat who they were told had about 3 months to live because of a tumor - - and that was four+ years ago. That tumor has also reduced greatly in size.

RE: Enzymatic Therapy

Dear Scott,

Hey! Thanks for showing up at the Cancer Fighter Seminar. Glad you gleaned
some valuable information! Now, onto your question:

IP-6 is a dietary supplement, developed by an oncology physician, that has
been shown in various animal model studies to shrink tumors. In fact, rats
given pure IP-6 (as opposed to wheat bran chow--a natural source of IP-6)
showed a nearly 50% reduction in the number of tumors. IP-6 also has proven
immune-stimulating capability. Patients with active cancer should consume
betwen 4,800 and 7,200 mg of IP-6 along with an additional dosage of 1,200
to 1,800 mg of inositol for best effectiveness. Remember to take IP-6 on an
empty stomach because it can bind to other minerals. And, there are
imposters out there....I only recommend Cellular Forte by Enzymatic Therapy.
By the way, in my clinical practice, I've had a few patients complain of stomach
upset and rashes; although I can't definitively contribute this to the IP-6 and the
company doesn't show record of this side effect.

Most importantly, seek guided nutritional advice. Too often cancer patients
spend an enormous amount of money on the latest "cancer cures" without
really knowing whether or not the therapies are effective or possibly harmful.
There is no one magic bullet; but a combination of therapies will provide you
with the most effective and efficient way to boost your immunity and kill off
those nasty cancer cells.

Best of luck,

Enzymatic Therapy is a company based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They sell
many high quality products, including IP-6 Cellular Forte, to health care
professionals and health food stores around the nation. You should be able
to find IP-6 at a larger health food store, or the store should be able to place a
special order for you.

Hi Paula,

Product literature suggests the two can be used together. They both stimulate immunity, but perhaps have different mechanisms and actions. At Cancer Treatment Centers of America, we use cell protection (antioxidants) and immune stimulants as adjuvant treatment to chemotherapy and radiation. Animal studies confirm that IP-6 has been shown to enhance the effectiveness of conventional cancer treatment.

Hope this helps,

Kim

Alisa,

The recommendation for people who have cancer, or have a high risk of
cancer (history of), the recommended daily dose is 4800 to 7200 mg of IP6. Ad
additional 1200 to 1800 mg of inositol should be taken with it. Both are best
absorbed on an empty stomach.

Kim: I am a 56 yr. old guy with advanced ssc on the neck. Started out in October 2001, as ssc on my uvula. Went thru 37 radiation treatments and then had to have the uvula and part of the hard palette removed anyway in April. Since then I've had three other minor surgeries to remove cancerous cells in the oral cavity. The damned bug has now jumped ship and just this last week I had radical surgery on the left neck - which turned out to be inoperable. Too close to the base of the skull?

Do you think IP-6/inositol would be appropriate in my case?

I've not seen any studies showing the efficacy of using IP-6 for head and neck cancer; however, IP-6 is immune stimulating, and may offer you some benefit. You may want to consider seeking expert advice about diet and supplements to address your overall needs--cell protection, rebuilding and repair and enhanced immunity.

Cancer Resource Center, 800.940.2822 can give you free written general nutrition guidelines, or for a fee, provide nutrition counselling. You can also get specific meal and vitamin plans for head and neck cancers (uppper digestive tract)in my book, Challenge Cancer and Win!

Dear Jeannine,

IP-6 has been shown to benefit mammary tumors in animal studies. But, before you begin to take supplements, you need to think about a larger issue: the threat of poor nutrition. You are experiencing debilitating side effects and have no appetite--that puts you at risk for malnutrition, the cause of death for 40% of cancer patients!

I believe you could benefit from a prescription appetite stimulant--ask your doctor. And immediately seek the help of a qualified nutritional professional who can devise a program specific to your needs. The time, effort and cost you pay for this advice will benefit you significantly more than relying on any one dietary supplement to answer all your health concerns.

Best of luck,

I'm looking at a bottle of Cell Forte with IP-6 & Inositol made by Enzymatic Therapy Natural Medicines. My husband is taking it for Stage 4 esophageal cancer along with Lysozyme Forte made by Nutritional Counselors of America. Per a biochemist that is working with us, Jim takes 8 IP-6's in the morning on an empty stomach and 8 at night before bed. The IP-6 is supposed to enhance the natural cancer killer cells. Lysozyme Forte is supposed to do the same thing. He takes 4 lysozyme 4 times a day on an empty stomach.

The web site for Enzymatic Therapy is www.enzy.com and the number is 1-800-783-2286. Someone replying to this question said to beware of some legal problems - but if the product works, don't worry about their legal problems. It's probably someone suing them because it didn't work for that particular person. Lab tests look great so it's worth the expense - and it is fairly expensive. I paid $51.00 for 240 caplets. The Lysozyme Forte by NCA is $28.50 for 270 tabs. I get mine through a co-op. You can order from Pat Oosterbaan who is in Florida at 941-756-7359. He'll mail it to your home.

Kim Dalzell, PhD, RD, LD. My wife has Pancreatic Cancer - Adenocarcinoma Stage IV in the "Tail" of her Pancreas that has spread to her Omentum. This all started on Feb. 27, 2003 and confirmed on March 22, 2003 after having a Lapraoscope. Here it is April 7, 2003 and she will start Radiation & Chemotherapy (Gemzar) treatments on April 10, 2003 some 6 weeks later. Up to today she has been "physically well" but this is definitely starting to change. We have a copy of your book "Challenge Cancer and Win" but 2 weeks waiting for the book seems like an eternity now.

Can you recommend anything that fights this type of like IP.6? IP.6: Cell Forté is the ideal foundation product to use in conjunction with Healthy CellsT Breast? or Healthy CellsT Prostate? targeted cellular formulas. It is very difficult find something to aid in the fight of Pancreatic Cancer, especially in the tail region.
I am looking for anything that has been proven to work and can help her fight this battle.

Thank you very much,
Ed L.

RE: RE: RE: Enzymatic Therapy

Dear Ed and Sandy,

Thank you for writing to me. Nutritional therapy can be one of the most powerful tools we have to prevent and fight cancer--even pancreatic cancer! I can sympathize with you when you mention a number of products geared toward certain cancers; the less prevalent cancers (including pancreatic cancer) seem to be "forgotten" when it comes to guidance in the literature.

I'm glad you have ordered my book, which outlines specifically which dietary supplements and food choices are best for those individuals with pancreatic cancer (as well as others!). I also apologize that it is taking so long for you to receive it; usually, it ships within 24 hours from amazon.com or it takes just a few days if you order from BookMasters.

Now, before thinking of dietary supplements, there is a bigger picture to consider: Is Sandy malnourished? Can she tolerate the foods she consumes? Has she lost a significant amount of weight? Initially addressing these issues are critical to cancer recovery because 40% of cancer patients die from malnutrition related causes. I would suggest several things:

1) Get a malnutrition assessment from a registered dietitian at her treatment hospital.
2) Ask her doctor to prescribe digestive enzymes to help with digestion/absorption of nutrients.
3) If indicated, a generalized dietary supplement program should be started; communicate with her physician prior to beginning any supplement program. Cancer Nutrition Centers of America offers a "starter kit" of dietary supplements including a broad-spectrum multivitamin-mineral, high dose antioxidants and immune stimulants that may help you in the interim. You can review their supplements at www.cancernutritioncenter.com.

I've worked with several individuals with pancreatic cancer who have beat the odds. Hope and healing can be realized. The first step is gaining knowledge and believing there is more than one way to treat cancer!

RE: Enzymatic Therapy

PhD. Kim,
We followed your advice and not to our surprise the nutritionist on site "don't really know a lot about the human body"! She did not want to prescribe any pre-digestive enzymes. Basically she told Sandy she wasn't that familiar with the human anatomy. Then she told her she had too much anxiety and handed her a handful of pamphlets: Diet and Health Recommendations for Cancer Prevention by AICR (I'm sorry, we are looking for cures, she already "HAS" the disease), Eating Hints for Cancer Patients by National Cancer Institute, Nutrition and the Cancer Survivor by Amer. Cancer Society. Sandy's personal physician told her to ask the Oncologist about Enzyme Therapy. We did and it was blown off with a statement about not needing Enzyme Therapy, just eat the right foods and you'll be okay. It seems all we get are the standard AMA responses and I am not ready to let my wife die because they refuse to "open their minds" and utilize a combined medical and nutritional treatment plan that is design to "save her life" not "make her comfortable"!

I also had Sandy ask about blood work, as she is to start both Radiation and Gemzar Chemotherapy on Thursday. She was told they did that when they installed her port on March 31, 2003. Yes, almost 2 weeks ago we agreed to have a port installed to "SAVE PRECIOUS TIME"! She hasn't had the opportunity to use it as yet but we followed their advice. Now, weight loss. Sandy was on a "Weight Watchers" diet for about 4 or 5 weeks without "any" weight loss. However, she lost 10 lbs. after going off the diet and returning to "her" normal eating habits after finding out about the cancer. She appeared to be doing fine from about the middle of March through this past weekend (4/05 & 4/06/2003). She started complaining of fatigue. She also stated that she is eating far more that she use to and "not gaining" or losing any weight but her stomach has grown to where she looks like she might be 3 or 4 months pregnant. She also said she lost about 3/4 of an inch on both of her legs on the lower thigh and for the first time she can start to feel "hard spots" across her tummy where it use to be soft.

I feel that we have lost "opportunity" in these past 6 weeks (2/27/2003 - 4/10/2003) from
discovery to treatment. When Sandy asked about the nutritionist on Monday 4/7/2003 she was told not to worry about it, the nutritionist could talk to her "while" she is getting Chemotherapy. So, you can see I have great concern that my wife's health doesn't appear to be very important to them. We are with an HMO and the best we appear to be able to do is go to another Nutritionist in association with the HMO. My personal belief is that if the HMO doesn't prescribe to anything but "traditional meds" then they are not about to hire a nutritionist that would be in "conflict with their personal interest" which is selling prescription medications not dietary or natural heath supplements.
You mentioned a "starter kit" of dietary supplements, vitamins, antioxidants and immune stimulants. I was also considering purchasing Hydroxygen Plus! It says it is suppose to "supply the body with a steady diet of free oxygen, hydrogen, full spectrum minerals, amino acids, and enzymes - all while cleansing your body's cells of toxins and lactic acid. It also talks about eliminating the free radicals. Now, this sounds like something every Cancer Patient would want. Have you heard of this product?
It has rave reviews on www.cancer-treatments.net/cancer.html

RE: RE: Enzymatic Therapy PLEASE READ AND REPLY

My mother has small cell lung cancer that has spread a little to the spine and is undergoing chemotherapy using PLATINOL (Cisplatin) CAMPTOSAR (Irinotecan Hydrochloride) DECADRON (Dexamethasone) her first session of chemotherapy was for 6 hours with 2 hours next week and so on I was wondering if this Enzymatic Therapy IP-6 is appropriate if not could you recommend any immune boosting or something that has helped lung cancer patients and shown effective in reducing growths. Something that would not make her nauseous or tired or aggrivate her stomach and bowel movements. Is enzymatic therapy appropriate? My mother is very concerned about using other things except her chemo due to the fact that she feels that it might make her sick and she has spoken to her doctor about supplements and he said he didn't want her on any things for they could give her a bad reaction with the chemo she is on and all problems could start but he did say that he could give her a multivitamin but I'm not too comfortable with just that and don't understand why that was recommened but other things he said would not be good cause they might cause reactions or interfere like I had said so if anyone has the same type of lung cancer or not on this board could you please e-mail me with anythings that you are using or know about that seem to be good my e-mail is electrikvelvet@aol.com If not could you give me any therapys that have shown results in people that took them or direct me to info. We are interested in clinical trils protocols and are willing to go out of state any info. would be appreciated thank you so much.

RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Enzymatic Therapy

Hi,

Apart from being confused about you knowing you have cancer without it being diagnosed, I shall just say that MGN 3 is a little like wine, in that some kinds are better than others. The best I have located is Bio-Bran, but this is expensive. IP6 should increase the effect of MGN 3, but I do not know this for certain.

Regardless, as I have told another lady, IP6 is not the best, and regardless of hearing its effects portrayed on this list, scientific studies have shown it to lag behind some other products. Transfer Factor is one of them (no, I am not a sales rep -I detest such people). If you want the big guns go for Transfer Factor Plus, this actually has IP6 as one of its ingredients, although when you look at what else they is put in you should notice some components of MGN 3, and beta glucans too. And this is not even mentioning the real power of transfer factors. If you do not know anything about them, take a read.

Hi Conrad! I have been to two ENTs and they both, without doing a biopsy, stated that what I had under the back of my tonque, at the beggining of my throat, WAS cancer! But, the second one did do a biopsy yesterday, Friday 29th! So now my throat is worse sore than it was, and will have to wait until Tuesday the 2nd of Sept to get the results! She is also going to do a PET scan on TUesday, and lung Xray I think!
Also, I took your advice about the Transfer Factor AND Transfer Factor Plus and ordered some today from the web site! Was about to have to buy more MGN3 and LP-6 anyway so just thought I would try this first! Website sounds impressive! Thanks again for you help and anything else that you think might benefit me please let me know! Thanks, David

Nutrition Therapy Success

Dear Shelly,

Thank you for writing to me. I've not heard of any ovarian cancer patients who have beat their cancer solely with nutrition. In fact, I have not heard of any cancer patient who can make that claim and actually substantiate it. In alignment with Cancer Treatment Centers of America, I believe that a multitude of natural approaches (mind, body and spirit complementary therapies)in conjunction with conventional cancer treatments will give you the best chance for recovery. If you are interested in diet and vitamin recommendations for ovarian cancer, visit www.challengecancer.com. This is my website and it offers a book detailing a nutrition plan for all gynecological cancers (as well as others). Or, if you would like a telephone consultation for nutritional recommendations, please call Cancer Resource Center at 800.940.2822 and ask more about the various programs.

Best wishes,

Dear Kim, Thank you for your response. I believe very strongly in the mind-body involvement in the healing process, and when I was in University the focus of my research was on imagery therapy with Cancer Patients. Many years have passed since then and now that I am faced with choices to make myself, with my recent reasearch and help from the CTCA web site, I see how important both are; Naturopathic and Conventional Medical. I look forward to reading your book. Thank you for caring. Sincerely, Shelly

Enzymatic Therapy

Dear Dr. Dalzell: I read your reply to Scott concerning IP-6 - a dietary supplement. I have Stage IV recurring pancreatic cancer which has metastasized. I have been treated with Gemzar for over a year, which has more or less stabilized my cancer growth. I do take vitamins, but have never heard of IP-6. Do you think it would help me, and if so, where do I purchase it? Any information or assistance you can give me would be most helpful. The doctors don't seem to know what to do with me, since I've been battling my cancer for over 4 years, and they said I'd be dead years ago --- BUT I'M STILL HERE, PRAISE GOD!!

Cured Through Nutrition

There are many, many individuals including doctors, who have refused mainstream cancer treatments and instead treated their cancer through nutrition.

There is much to learn if you open your mind. My mother is 82 and was diagnosed with NHL 20 months ago. Her doctors told her she wouldn't live 4 weeks if she didn't opt for 12 months (16 to 18 treatments) of CHOP. She has treated her cancer holistically and has changed her diet and is now taking digestive enzymes, probiotics (as opposed to antibiotics). She's amazing and her doctors are shocked.
