Lymph glands still swollen 6 months after surgery

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do to reduce/get rid of swollen lymph glands (or nodes?) following breast cancer surgery? Was not a mastectomy but most of the breast and lymph nodes were removed, but there is still a lot of swelling there. Surgeon says nothing can be done.

RE: Lymph glands still swollen 6 months after surgery

Dear Nancy,

Symptoms you describe make me think you may have lymphedema. There
are natural ways to manage and prevent lymphedema. I found a wonderful
website at www.lymphnet.org that will provide you with tips for reducing the
swelling through moderate exercise, massage and nutritional therapies.
There are many herbs that act as natural diuretics, including dandelion, that
might be helpful to you. In addition, anti-inflammatory natural supplements
like omega-3 fatty acids, bromelain may help reduce swelling. If you need
additional information on natural therapies for prevention of breast cancer
recurrence, contact Cancer Resource Center at 800.940.2822 and ask for their
free nutritional packet of information.

Healthy Regards,

I have still have swollen lymph glands 14 months after surgery. I am seeing a lymphedema therapist. She has recommended compression sleeve for arms and a very good sports bra for under the arm. She has also recommended massage therapy and exercise. Contact any Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy office.
