Cord Blood Banking Help Treat my Cousin?

I have a niece who was just diagnosed with leukemia. I'm currently pregnant and my husband and I have discussed cord blood banking and now we are seriously considering it to help treat my niece. Does anyone know more about cord blood banking and what it might do to help my family?

Cord Blood

Cord blood can be used for stem cells for use in stem cell transplants. SCT are sometimes, but not always used in leukemia patients. What type of leukemia does she have? There are other sources for stem cells including her siblings, herself and matched donors. I'd say its a little early to be worried about that. She may not even need a SCT if her chemo goes well. Have you talked with her doctors about it?
