I'm currently pregnant and my husband and I have discussed cord blood banking and now we are seriously considering it to help treat my niece. Amber Wed, 04 Jan 2006 00:00:00 GMT Cord blood can be used for stem cells for use in stem cell transplants. SCT are sometimes, but not always used in leukemia patients. What type of leukemia does she have? There are other sources for stem cells including her siblings, herself and matched donors. I'd say its a little early to be worried about that. She may not even need a SCT if her chemo goes well. Have you talked with her doctors about it?
