Leg and Ankle Pain From Taxol

I have had two treatments so far for my ovarian cancer. After each of the sessions I suffered severe ankle and knee pain with accompanying radiating pain in my lower legs and feet. Heat seemed to make it worse. Cold compresses sometimes alleviated the pain, but not always. The pain lasts over 2 weeks with the first week after the treatment being the worst. All percosett did was make me sicker! Advil (600mg) only took the edge off. I am due for another treatment soon and I am dreading it. Has anyone experienced this and what did they do for it? I will be eternally grateful!

Taxol

Hi, This is my 8th round of chemo for ovarian cancer, I also had breast cancer 3 years ago.Same drugs taxol/carbo, the pain is bad!!! I'm on oxycodone 5 mg. It takes away the pain in about 20 minuts and you can feel it leaving your body. I could not live without it. When I first found out I had BC I would not take the pain meds. I hate drugs and I don't want to get hooked on them.Ha,Ha The doc told me over and over to take my pain pills!! Pain makes stress and stress brings pain. I now take my pain pills when I first feel the pain coming on. My fingers are numb along with my legs and feet. My head hurts so I shave my head. I don't know what it's like to have long hair anymore. I go outside without a wig or hat, let the people look. I still cry and have my bad days, but I'm pain free. when I talk I can't speak right so I tell everyone I have chemo brain. I joke about it, but I'm crying inside. Tell your doc you need stronger pain pills!! You can't do this with the pain. So what if it's addictive you need the pain gone.
Don't give up the hope!!!

in Response to Taxol

I am a Ovarian Cancer patient.. diagnosed in 2004.. I underwent surgery removing ovaries and the lining of my stomach.. I had complications with my uterus...I still have it in.. I was diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian .. I began taxol/carbo and responded very well to the treatment.. I as well experienced the symtoms your referring to and what worked for me was... I took a mild pain relief and SLEPT...It might be a little un-comfortable but well worth the try.. Prayers are with everyone that has this disease... If I can be of any help.. feel free
