They gave her vioxx and an antibiotic that gave her really bad side effects and she had to go back to the emergency room for intense bowel movements and blood in movements they found out after test that the vioxx and antibiotic poisoned her system and had a reaction so then she only did the antibiotic and was fine with some mild diarrhea. So it happened again left foot swollen spend 5 hours in the emergency room yesterday and sent home with the results of her blood test and told to take some perks for pain if needed and that her oncologist would have to see her and treat her since they didn't know what to prescribe to her and said that they didn't want to do harm. She's going to the oncologist today and she might not even be able to have chemo and it will be a month today without any treatments and today is her long treatment. I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with swollen limbs at first before blood tests they thought right off it was gout or cellulites, meaning infection, turns out her uric acid was normal and her white cells were extremely high and they said that was great. My best friend was diagnosed with extenstive stage small cell lung cancer in late July. It had spread to her liver. To day she has undergone (3) rounds of chemo. After the last round at the beginning of October, her red blood count dropped to the point where she need an infusion. Prior to that one of her feet were swollen. Since then, both her feet are extremely swollen, making it extremely difficult for her to walk or maintain balance to climb stairs, etc. An MRI of her liver was done yesterday and the doctor said the tumor in her liver has completely overtaken the liver, that there is nothing to be done about the swollen feet, that the prognosis is not good and to get her affairs in order. He told her to come in Monday for another round of chemo. At this point, we don't really see why. We were so shocked yesterday we really did not ask the doctor any questions. A scan done in late September prior to her 3rd round of chemo showed that the tumors were shrinking so we cannot understand what has happened. The family will be writing down questions to ask the doctor. Laura V. Fri, 31 Oct 2003 00:00:00 GMT Patricia, My mother was diagnosed in November of 2003 with Emphysemia and in April of 2004 she was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in the upper lobe of her right lung. She has recieved two different types of chemo and 0ne round of radiation. She is now recieving a third type of chemo called Tetal. Her tumor went from 5.4 cm to 1 cm with only 2 doses of the Tetal and as of now her cancer has not spread. Both her feet are swollen as well as her ankles. Her cancer doctor has her on 40mg of a diuretic a day and has her wearing Ted stockings to keep the swelling down. It seems to be helping. She has gone through a lot this last year and has had good days and bad. We all keep praying that God will help us all through this and will guide the doctors. You are in our prayers. GOD BLESS! Grandma Suzie Thu, 14 Apr 2005 00:00:00 GMT My mom has non-small cell adeno carcinoma she has received radiation treatments for 3 weeks and now is starting chemo. Her feet and legs have swelled up enormously due to blood clots in her legs. You should have the doctors check to make sure there aren't any clots, it is a very common side effect of cancer.
