Vain

i too have been told i have VAIN. i understand how scary it is. im in the UK. where are you from? i only ask as where you live depends on the treatment you receive. i had a total hysterectomy 2 years ago (after cervical cancer and other gyny probs). had vault smears (from top of vagina) 6 monthly afterwards and each time ive ended up in hosp having more surgery. now my doc wants me to consider a vaginectomy or radiatherapy (both of which means penetrative sex will be impossible). im scared and confused. ive never slept around, dont have HPV, and always gone for smears etc. and im only 42. i have a few months to decide on the treatment i have next as doc said hes 100% sure its not going to spread (very few cells at the moment), and also as i detest being in hospital and everything to do with this awful disease. i thought it would all be finished when i had the hysterectomy. not for me, and i am now in the one in a million position that it keeps recurring. have you had treatment? how is it going? anyway ive rambled on for quite a bit now so am going to go. paula

What Are/were Your Symptoms?

Have you been diagnosed? What were your symptoms? I have just made the decision to see a different Dr. than who I saw two years ago, because intercourse is still so painful and the Dr.'s recommendation to "relax more" didn't make any difference whatsoever. If anybody else is reading this, please let me know what your initial symptoms were. Thanks. I'm really scared about the possibility of a cancer diagnosis. Laurie

i just wanted to ask if you have been for a smear recently? if not, then insist on having one done asap. painful sex is associated with lots of different things, cancer is not the first thing doctors will look for if you have had regular smears. where bouts are you? im in uk. i think you are wise to change your doctor as 'relax more' is hardly a sound diagnosis! dont be too worried about having cancer, it is rare and is usually detected early and is very treatable. ive had gynae problems for 21 years and im still here! if you have any other questions, let me know but in the meantime dont worry!! paula x

hi Paula

I guess you saw that I tried to put my email address online. I didn't realize it was against the rules. I, too, wish we could get in touch but I don't have any good ideas. I am almost two years from treatment and am doing well. My doc told me that recurrence happens 80% during the first two years. I don't know if there's a difference between treatment in California opposed to UK. I had radiation and chemotherapy. Judy

Thanks For Your Response

Hi Paula-thanx so much for your response. I saw a gyno doc last week and had a very extensive exam(including smear & vaginal biopsy) and am waiting for results. One thing he said was my vagina has shrunk by over 1/2-that's a whole other issue to deal with I guess. If you'd like, I'll respond again once I hear results on tests. Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. Laurie

RE: hi Paula, Laurie and everyone!

I want to tell u girls be careful listening to only one doctor, be sure to get a second and/or third opinion here. I went to the health food store and got a cream to put on the clit, it stimulates your libido, and I started ready some saucy material, this help MUCH with R & R, the RELAX thing said repeatedly, remember when 'we' are stressed it is hard to relax, and when things hurt it is harder to relax, have a wine, use music, and positive thoughts "i'm gonna enjoy XXXX", make sure to tell ur partner what to do, NOT what NOT to do, teach him what YOU LIKE, and keep going, this put a strain on my marriage not knowing, not to tell him "in the bedroom" what hurts, I learned to tell him what I liked, and things got better.I do have vaginal cancer cells, biopsy-non-cancerous 3 mnths ago, now going in for laser cuff-anyhow, I'm writting in response to what has been writen, as well I must say PAIN CAN be MANY OTHER things - not just cancer- I had a DNC, and felt like I was 17 again, we're all dierent! Good Luck to all of you! God Bless each of you.
