Throat Cancer

My 66 year old father was just diagnosed with "early" laryngeal cancer after undergoing a biopsy last week. Our family is in shock. He is trying to determine the best treatment option: surgery with or without radiation or radiation alone. If he has the surgery, he will have a partial voice box removal. He is not so much concerned about preserving his voice, he just wants the best outcome. Does anyone out there have any recommendations based on experience and good (or not so good) outcomes. Thank you.
