Thanks,ASAP Debra78 Thu, 10 Aug 2006 00:00:00 GMT our doctor in columbus sent us to the best liver cancer center for my dad (although md anderson was in the top numbers, the BEST) was the liver cancer center at the university of pittsburgh, yahoo upmc and david geller...that surgeon was our miracle worker and has helped many through this board. tell him michelle from ohio told you to call. his email is also online and he is AWESOME about emailing folks to help educate them. the staff and folks at upmc are wonderful and although we were away from home, were very fortunate to be able to have my father's surgery there that helped him rid his body of a LOT of growing cancer....best of luck. My husband has stage4 colon cancer with mets to his liver,and now it is all over.Our Surgeon said he cannot operate any more and radiation would kill him.We are running out of options ,I wonder if Dr. Geller could help.Thanks for any more info.SW Sw7376 Mon, 25 Sep 2006 00:00:00 GMT dr. geller would find it. my dad had colon cancer with liver mets. the liver mets where scattered and big. the doctors at duke university weren't without all hope but they said there wasn't a likely chance that they could shrink or reduce in number enough to operate. we went to see dr. ghany at Ohio State. Within 6 months of putting dad on 5FU, leucovorin and avastin, we were amazed at the results....tumors shrank, disappeared and we were ready for surgery. dr. geller at uPMC was absolutely amazing. dr. ghany said dr. geller was the best and he was right. dr. geller told us after the 14 hour surgery that dr. schraut who started with dad's colon had to search for the primary tumor b/c it had shrunk so much on the chemo. dr. geller said there were a few that were hidden on dad's liver. but he cut out 60% of dad's liver...cutting all out so he was sure it would be gone. ablating was an option, but he selected this method for even those he saw only when he was working on dad. he went over the liver with a very sophisticated ultrasound in surgery to be sure he got it all. in the last 6 months (we're 14 months post surgery and dad is doing fabulous...working every day and through it all never got jaundice or anything) in any event, we've been returning to upmc every 3 months to compare ct scans to when we began there ...dr. geller meets us each time and is very realistic about what is going on. 6 months ago a few spots on dad's lungs showed up. in coordination with our oncologist, dr. ghany, they decided oral xeloda would help him the most and be least disruptive to the quality of life. 3 months ago no change. this month there was a bit of change but he thought still too small to biopsy. by the time we'd gotten home, he'd consulted with our oncologist who said it would of course be best if there was anyway to biopsy so we knew what we were fighting. dr. geller talked to the head of thoracic surgery, dr. luketich at upmc and tomorrow we consult with him and wed. we are already on the schedule for a biopsy...our docs are confident this doc can get it...but didn't want just anyone doing this open procedure. dr. geller is wonderful. he's your doctor and your advocate. he can get you where and with whom you need to see to help you face the crisis at hand. although i do not know specifics about your husband's case, i do know without a doubt that if anyone can help, it will be dr. geller. tell him michelle from ohio sent you. you can send him an email and he can give you good info that way. i know he said he is going to see my dad thursday b/c he is in boston wed this week...so email him early. he is fabulous. if you are close by and can do a consult, call his office and latisha will help you get in! best of luck http://www.upmclivercancercenter.com/ dr geller is the one on the right. he is amazing!
