Bump under my tongue

I have a small bump under my tongue. It doesn't fit any of the symptoms of oral cancer. The bump isn't that big, isn't painful and doesn't really have a red or white color to it. However, it hasn't gone away and has gotten me somewhat worried. I'm 27 and I did smoke for 5 years, but have been smoke free for over 2 years now. Does anyone know what it might be?

RE: Bump under my tongue

Hi Nathan! Better go see an ENT ASAP, simply becasue it MIGHT BE cancerous! I, Just 3 days ago had surgery for a bump under the back of my tongue! Thank GOD the surgeon said that we got it in time, even tho the biopsy showed Squamous Cell Carcinoma! Dont mess with it! AND--if it isnt cancerous the load off your mind will be worth the time and expense! ALSO, at your age you can have a head start at preventing cancer with diet as well as several other ways! Read Patrick Quillans book "Beating Canceer with Nutrition", then do it!

Good luck & GOD Bless!

RE: Bump under my tongue

Hi Nathan, I hope by now you have visited an ENT doctor concerning the bump
under your tongue. I was diagnosed with tongue cancer under my tongue in
Sept. 2001 after seeing five different doctors. I had a white ulcer like lesion on
the under side of my tongue that did not look cancerous to any of the doctors
and after 1 1/2 years the oral surgeon finally decided to do a biopsy just to
pacify me and lo and behold it turned out to be squamous cell carcinoma to
everyone's surprise. I then had surgery and radiation treatments and am now
cancer free. You just have to be persistent if you think something is wrong.

Take care, Vickie

RE: RE: Bump under my tongue

Nathan,

I have just read the replies that were sent to you. I too had a lump in my mouth, but having never smoked before knew that it couldn't be b/c of that. I went to my ENT and had it removed and it came back as MALT lymphoma which is a very rare type of cancer. This was actually a recurrance, as I had been diagnosed w/ it when I was 22 and I am now 26. I was told that it probably wasn't anything b/c of it's location, but if I were you I'd have it removed or have a fine needle aspiration done on it.

Also, in our family we have impurity cysts that develop in our mouths and under our tongues. Sometimes my aunt will get them for months at a time and they will just go away. They are noncancerous, but still annoying! It could very well be that as well. However, I'd still get it checked out!

Bump on my Tongue

For the last 6 months or so I have had this bump around the middle of my tongue. It looks like an enlarged taste bud with no pain. It hasn't gotten larger but hasn't gone away and I am becoming scared and am nervous to go to the Doctor for fear that I have waited too long and it could be cancer. Does anyone know what this sound like.

Bump Under my Sore Tongue

Hi there!

I have a little white bump under my tongue and those two veins that run down my tongue (that are normally purple in color) are red and underneath my tongue is pretty sore and irritated. Now that I've read everyone's postings I'm FREAKING out and have an appt with my local ENT but can't get in for another month. Should I hurry and find another ENT out of town and take a day off work? I guess better safe than sorry!?!

Stressed Out,

I have the exact same thing in my mouth and I was wondering whatever happened. Was it cancerous? Was it harmless cysts?
I am nervous too so please let me know if you heard anything.
