Cramping in The Abdomen

My Husband had the whipple procedure in May 2006.
He had a tuma in the bile duct and it was isolated. He did not need Chemo etc. He has a lot of cramping and problem sleeping at nite. he has a lot of gas. We have been told that the cramping is Muscle spasms. I would like to know if anyone has experienced these problems and how long they have lasted.
