Last year I had a high PSA count. No early problems. Started hormone treatments. Cancer has spread to the bones. Hormone treatment did not work. Now taking chemo to keep the count down and hopefully the cancer in the bones. Apparently, I am in stage IV of this disease - it came upon me fast and swift! Tue, 15 Apr 2003 00:00:00 GMT Howard, My husbands prostate was removed in 4/96 followed by 35 treatments of radiation in 11/96 because PSA was rising. Started first hormone treatment, Casodex, in 6/97 because his PSA started rising again. Switched to Lupron Shots in 2000 once PSA started rising again. In 2001 CAT SCAN showed the cancer did spread to lymph node blocking the uterer to his left kidney which is no longer fuctioning. In December Walt started Zolodex injections...first injection was for one month and the second injection given in January was a 3 month injection. This is where we stand right now. He feels and looks good....the most important message I can give you is to remain positive! This has helped him tremendously. Hope this helped you! Pamela S. He is doing a combination of hormone treatment and chemo (inplant in stomach) each lasts for 3 months. PSA count down from 155 to .5 / tumor has shrunk/May start radiation next month. I was wondering why you would start radiation if your husband is already on chemo? What type of chemo and hormone treatment is he on? How is your husband feeling with the chemo implant? Did he have is prostate removed? My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer with a 7.2 PSA reading...his PSA was never as high as your husbands (I think the highest it ever went was 19.2) I feel it is very important to be on top of his PSA because it can change very quickly and when or if it does you know something is happening to his system. When his PSA kept rising, his Dr. immediately ordered a bone and cat scan, which showed the cancer had spread to one lymph node next to his left kidney. His kidney became atrophied and is no longer functioning. Even though his PSA is taking monthly things do happen and they happen fast! Recently his PSA remained the same for 2 months so the Dr again ordered a bone and cat scan, which showed the cancer had spread to more lymph nodes. Now he is taking an alternative supplement "Seasilver" because he does not want to start chemo yet. My husband still feels and looks great and I hope yours does too! We grow closer everyday, remain very positive and laugh a lot...we find that is our best medicine! Pamela S. Mon, 21 Apr 2003 00:00:00 GMT I am a 44 year old and I was diagnosed with advance prostate cancer about a year ago. I was in the military for 8 years prior and had a physical every two years but I never had my PSA checked. I didn't even know what a PSA was! When I was diagnosed with the cancer my PSA was over 3000. The only reason I went to the Dr was because of back pain, no appetite, and loss of energy. The cancer has metastisized to my bones but thankfully I don't have a lot of pain. I remain active and have even been called back to active duty (I'm an Army Chaplain in case you're wondering). I take a Cassodex daily, a Celebrex twice a day, a quarterly Lupron injection, and an I-V drip of Zometa every three to four weeks. My doctors (I've been to three different ones) tell me I'm doing extraordinary, but there is not much more they want to do at this time. I would be interested in hearing about any additional treatments available for advance prostate cancer. Best wishes and richest blessings to all of you. Joel F. I heard wonderful things about this supplement and we share many of the same philosophies. He is extremely knowledgeable and has worked with many prostate cancer patients with great success.
