Nutrition

I thought I might ask some of the "experts" out here what foods are good for someone who is struggling with GBM Grade 4 brain tumor. My father-in-law was diagnosed just two weeks ago, he starts radiation next week and Chemo the following. Unfortunately they had to treat a Staph infection first.

Anything on foods that heal would be wonderful!
Thank you and I'm sending warm thoughts for everyone!

Nuitrition

Keep him away from anything that has preservatives in it. All fresh foods, fruits, veggies, meat from the butcher and fish from a fish market, everything fresh. That is what I have my husband on along with Fred Eichorns program. Good Luch and God Bless.

Nutrition

We received helpful guidance from the nutritionist at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. One of the things that sticks out in my mind that she told us was that sugar is a "fertilizer" for cancer. We had no idea. There are alternatives, however.

Also, as a rule of thumb, she told us to choose foods as close to their original source as possible.

I have a notebook full of nutrition info. I need to go through and share more ideas. Somewhere in my collection of papers, there are lists of cancer fighters (super foods) as well as a list of foods to avoid.

Maybe your dr. could give you a referral to a nutrition specialist? It is amazing what a huge role diet can play when fighting cancer.

Blessings-

Nutrition

This is just a shot in the dark perhaps but please if you have the time review my website http://www.mannapages.com/jacobsladder. I know we are all looking for any kind of help and support and there is no sure miracle cure but I can say that nutrition is a major factor in recovery and in helping many cancer patients on the road to beating cancer.

Lupron Injections

my husband has been getting lupron injections for over a year now due to prostate cancer---after radiation therapy his psa count went up-lupron injections have lowered it to "undetectable" however weight gain (or water weight don't know which it is) has been over 40 lbs (most of it on the abdoman) --tried water pills -not sucessful only caused him to lose pottasium..He is not able to excersise due to problems with bllod clots in legs-also had a brain hemmorage in 2000---I understand that quantity of food is important-and that can be controlled-but what else can I do to help him geet rid of the excess weight gain----no one seems to help the whole body--oncologist is only taking care of the lupron therapy---md thinks he should go to a medical weight lose program(we had a consultation with one ) due to his health issues they were doubtful that it would be healthy for him---any suggestions-thank you---Rose

RE: Nutrition

Just a note about Ensure or Boost. I too watch the content of sugar in all foods that I eat. I also wash all fruits and vegetables with soap and water. Boost and probably Ensure are loaded with sugar. Making your own juices or watching closely the juices you buy for sugar content may be helpful. When I was first diagnosed with cancer and the nausea started my nutritionist (not a dietician) told me to listen to my body and realise that if I was craving something sugary that it was the cancer wanting fed. Interestingly enough I had threw up healthy food all weekend prior to talking with the nutritionist ............ I was only keeping down sugary food. What a mistake feeding that craving ........... lesson learned no sugary food. I stopped feeding the sugar craving and then tried a boost product. It went right through me. The dietcitian said maybe it was too potent for my body..... try boost in smaller quantity. The nutritianist said it was the sugar in boost that I was reacting too. I looked at the label and I believe the first 3 ingrediants were sugar. Something to think about ............ nutritionalists and dieticians are completely different. Nutritionalists will steer you immediately away from sugar when fighting cancer. Just wanted to add a perspective.................. foods close to the earth is a great idea i live with too. Best of health to your brother. Linda
