my Mother in Law Was Just Diagnosed

My name is Brittany. I've been doing some research online, but I'm getting more confused than anything. I got a phone call yesterday from a cousin to tell me that she was diagonosed and is haing a figner amputated because of it. Three years ago, a finger nail fell off and her nail bed got infected but she thought nothing of it. NOw that same finger is completely infected and swollen. She went to get it check out, and was told it had to be cut off so that if it hadn't already spread, it wouldn't. She has lumps under her arms as well, and those are being tested. I've looked at all the stages, and from what I can tell, this is pretty far advanced. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if they knew? My mother in law does not give much information to us, she actually only told my husband that it might be--I have found all the other information out through family members. Thanks in advance for any insight you can give!

Hi, you didn't mention what kind of cancer but I think I would have your m-i-l see a sarcoma specialist. With Hope, MiMi

Melanoma

I am sorry to hear that your mother-in-law has melanoma. My husband died last Nov. from it. I pray that they found it before stage 4, because my husband only had 3 months to live after that diagnosis. Keep praying and tell her to keep fighting, and travel if she can to other cancer centers to make sure she gets the latest that can be done. Try Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, And the NHI in Maryland. They have been in the news.

Finger

Please have her checked for soft-tissue sarcoma. I had a swollen lump on my bicep a little over a year ago and fortunately even though I went through 3 surgeries to remove the cancerous tissue they were able to save my arm. It was caught early enough. Good Luck,
Molly
