Drug Options?

This is the first time I'm posting to this board. My mother was diagnosed with metastatic RCC in August in Pakistan. Unfortunately, it had spread to her right shoulder, right thigh and right side of her pelvis...as a result of which she is now bed-ridden.

We have tried radiation therapy but had to discontinue because transporting her to the clinic for radiation was extrememly painful.

The doctors are now recommending Sutent. I wanted to know if anyone has any views on whether Sutent is better than Nexavar.

Also, do you know what the pricing would be and where I could get either of these drugs from?

My mother doesn't have insurance in Pakistan and its likely that I have to purchase either Sutent or Nexavar from here in the US to take back with me to Pakistan.

Thanks.

Kamran

Hi Kamran. My heart goes out to you being so far away from your mother. My husband was on nexavar and it did not work out too well for him. I wrote a message on the board "major reaction to nexavar" sharing his experience. He was only on it 2 weeks when the reaction put him in hosp and they took him off of the drug. It works differently for everyone so I shared my husbands experience no to scare anyone but to let others know. Having said that my husband started Sutent yesterday. Through reading and asking questions we think sutent may have the same side effects but they do not seem as severe so we spoke to our Oncologist and she said lets try it. It is very expensive 50mg pills for 28 days cost us #8413.00 and we are fortunate our insurance covered. We live on the east coast of Canada. I can only offer my husbands experience but if you read the board you will find Willard is on cycle 2 of sutent and Bunker has completed his cycles. I will keep you posted on my husband experience. I post on her a lot now and it is wonderful and people are so helpful. God Bless to both you and your mother.
