Metastatic Clear Cell Renal Cancer

My Mom had her kidney removed 4 years ago to clear cell cancer. At that time we were told they felt they had gotten it all and that there was no other treatment required. April of 2003 she was diagnosed with renal cell tumors in her thyroid and 2 lesions on her spine. She is currently finishing the last 2 weeks of Interferon injections. Her lesions remain the same. Has anyone been at this spot in treatment and where did you go from here? Our doctor is not very forthcoming with what we will do next.

Thanks you--SRhodes

RE: Metastatic Clear Cell Renal Cancer

Hi,
I am a RCC patient...I am in stage IV however, my suggestion to you is to start investigating clinical trials that your mother may be eligible for. There are several out there showing promise to folks with RCC. Massachusetts general, Dana Farber cancer institute in Boston are a few places you can contact. More importantly contact American Cancer Society, they can really help. Don't just rely on what the doctor says, look for other ways too to help. There is more than just one thing you can do, look and hope! Don't give up hope. Renal cell is a rare and almost unpredictable disease. Learn what you can about it and find out what you can. God Bless prayers are with you. Feel free to contact me if you wish. Sincerely, Angie xoxoxo

Hi Susan -
I was diagnosed with clear cell renal cancer at the age of 25. I am in remission, however the most valuble source of information and treatment options I've found is at http://cancerguide.org/kofaq/. Definitely sign up for the mailing list, and you will learn everything you ever wanted to know regarding treatment options. It's run by the Kidney Cancer Institute. Hope that helps! My prayers are with you and your family.

I am in stage 4 of renal cell cancer and I was giving myself the interferon shots. My oncologist said they were used in the hopes of slowing it up. myne did not either. But I was in stage 4 when I was first diagnosed. I had a tumor on my kidney bigger than the kidney itself. I think they told me it was about 16/17 CM. Maybe this will help as there are other people with it and we are praying for everyone else who has it as well.

My father has RCC. I don't know how mush this helps but Bayer and Onyx are getting ready to do a Stage 3 Clinical Trial. The website is http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=conewsstory&refer=conews&tkr=BAY:US&sid=a1BGeCde2QjE. If this helps anyone, then I am pleased to hear that. My heart and prayers go out to everyone reading this that is affected by RCC in some way.

I have renal cell carcinoma and had my right kidney removed in June 2000. I was fine for 2 years when it showed up in my left kidney and in the pancreas. I went on clinical trial using Interleukin-2 and Thalidomide. I had a lot of trouble with side affects but continued for the 8 week trial. My c-scan showed no improvement and in fact another lesion showed up in the adrenal gland. I will be trying Interferon next. Did your mother have any side affects with this? If this doesn't work, I don't know where we go from here. Just keep praying.

Renal Cancer

Dear Susan,
Please look into Dr. Burzynski at:
www.cancermed.com. He has had such great success with his cancer trials, that if I had only taken my husband to him instead of the the hospital, I know he would still be alive. Please keep me posted.
Sincerely, Frances

Metastatic Renal Cell

My husband is now heing treated at M. D. anderson for metastatic Renal Cell. He had Melaganonic melanoma in 2000 and when the oncologist did scans found a golf ball size mass on his right kidney because of the way it was sitting on the kidney he only removed 1/10 of the kidney and we have been having follow ups but no treatment ever since. In April of 2004 on the regular follow up and tumor was found at the end of a bile duct. They removed the bile duct and 1/2 of his liver and this was Cholangeocarsconma. This was the third type of cancer he has had with no symptoms. Our doctor in Oklahoma sent us to M.D. Anderson to figure out a treatment and when they did scans found a tumor in his head and two in his pancreas which was later determinined to be Renal Cell. We had to treat the Cholangocarsconma first with Chemo so after three months of chemo for that we them went to the tumor in the head. He opted for Stereotactic radiosurgery. after two months the tumor shrank 25%. Then we went after the tumors in the pancreas with Interferon. We are now in the third month of this and are having scans done at M.D. Anderson today. Do not know the outcome of the test yet. My husband has had no symptoms and no side effect from the Chemo or Interferon so he has been real lucky and he has not missed working. If there is any one else out there has has had these three cancers at once please let us know. We will keep you posted on our results.
