CancerCompass message board discussion started by Ivis100 on 12/6/2006 http://www.cancercompass.com/message-board/message/all,8139,0.htm Tue, 02 Dec 2008 00:00:00 GMT Tue, 02 Dec 2008 00:00:00 GMT http://backend.userland.com/rss RSS.NET: http://www.rssdotnet.com/ hello everyone recently my husband had his whole stomach removed due to stomach cancer he is fifty years old and he is very sick he has had three stents in his heart he is a diabetic and has high blood pressure and also has asma and high cholesterol and about a year ago he was diagnosed whith prostate cancer and it was removed he was still in treatment still it wasent enough then in october he started having lots of stomach pain on the left side and it was stomach cancer the doctors say that not only he had cancer in his stomach but also they took out 16 lympnodes that foreteen had cancer so they want to start giving hime chemo and radiation as soon as dec 18 he has lots of mood swings and he feels something moving in his stomach and the pain is terrible it only calms down whith pain medication specially when he eats what he can eat is so little he needs to eat one hour yes one no like that it hurts me to see him suffering i saw my mom battle with lucemia and then she past away i want my husband to be okay the forteen of dec is our anniversary we will be married for thirty years i need lots of ansers when he eats or drinks water he chokes at time it is so scarry what can i do to help hime if enyone has eny ansers to all this please please help me to understand what to do to help hime thankyou ivis Ivis100 Wed, 06 Dec 2006 00:00:00 GMT Hello.  I am a 49 year old female and have stomach cancer also.  I also had my entire stomach removed when we first found the cancer, which was back in July 2004.  My doctor put me on a feeding tube, which I was on for about 8 months.  I would try to eat in between tube feedings.  It is VERY difficult to eat and get "real" food down.  So my heart goes out to you and your husband.  As time goes by though, it will get easier for him to eat.  But, he will ALWAYS have to eat VERY slowly...little portions...and eat all through the day.  Beef and pork were hard for me at first.  Fried foods and wheat bread were also hard.   He doesn't need to drink alot before he eats.  But drinking water is VERY important for him to get down during his chemo.  I could get things like eggs, cheese, puddings, chicken, oatmeal, soups and stews to go down pretty good.  If he can tolerate the milk, you may want to feed him milkshakes.  They gave me diahrea at first, but now I can drink them a little at a time.
