Pain

My husband has kidney cancer that has spread to the femur bone. He had the kidney removed and a cadaver put in place of the right femur. This was in the last six months in 2000. Now he has unbelievable pain back in his right leg. He says the pain sometime goes to his other leg, groin area and buttocks. I am told bone scans don't always pick up the cancer, so they are saying it is most likely in the bones. He is on 800mg of oxycotin daily with minimal relief. What else is out there? I hear there is a patch. But what is the cost and how effective is it? Any info is welcomed. Thanks

RE: Pain

You may want to try Ibuprofen (Motrin/Advil) for the bone pain...if it is very very
painful...ask MD for possibility of presenting steroids into his pain management routine...this does work. I am a former hospice nurse and this combination with time release medications seems to work vs. going up on oxycontin.plus morphine is not as effective on bone pain as steroids or anti inflammatories.ask your doctor first before you try these methods ok? Let me know how you make out

I also have kidney cancer...had kidney removed...is he taking immune builders, vitamins trying to keep his immune system up? I am sorry for his terrible discomfort...I have not been experiencing any tremendous pain, however, I was diagnosed in early October last year...I have mets to lung and am doing various things...trying to get on a clinical trial in few weeks. Take care and I will be praying for your husband and you!

Anyone Out There on a Clinical Trial of Su11284 Yet?

I have been battling this disease since May 2003. I have just finished a clinical trial of Avastin/Tarceva in Boston, MA. I did quite well until recently, a new growth appeared, so now I am off those meds and getting on a new clinical trial with a drug by Pfizer, SU11284 (Sugen).
Are you going on a trial for that drug, or another?
Thank you,
S
