Stage IV Liver Cancer/Longevity?

I was diagnosed 13 months ago with stage IV liver cancer. Previously in 97 I was treated for breast cancer. I've been getting chemotherapy for the last 9 months. I'm now on the fourth kind of chemo. This last one seems to be working. It's getting rid of the "freckles" in my liver and making the remaining "freckles" smaller. I have two more treatments of Adryamicin, then another Cat Scan. If the "freckles" are all gone, I may be put on a "sister" chemo or hormone pill (Femora), as I have had a blood clot. My questions is if all the freckles are gone and I'm on hormonal pills, what is the life expectancy? I've heard 15% chance of living for 5 years!!!!!! IS THAT TRUE????? If anybody has any answers or input, please respond! PS: it's really hard to keep the weight off with all the pre-meds!!!!

Have you considered looking into finding a "naturalist" in your area that would be willing to help you do some liver detoxing???? I am not sure what your survival rate would be, I too have breast with mets to bones and at first they saw something on my liver.... I went to my naturapath and we started working on the detox and my next scan came back clean for the spot they had seen on my liver...... I am a stage IV cancer patient, but not stage IV for the liver.... But I highly recommend doing something that won't interfer with your standard treatments and could actually be helpful to your liver..... Where do you live???? Maybe I can help you find someone in your area to work with you......all the best,Yancy

RE: Stage IV Liver Cancer/Longevity?

Congratulations on finding a chemo that is helping. You may also want to ask your dr about "Erbutux" it's harsh but has been very beneficial for solid mass tumor reduction. Unfortunatley as I've learned in my 26 month fight with metastasized Colo-Rectal cancer (to my liver) liver cancer has a 4-15% chance of reaching a five-year survival rate and a less then 3% chance of 'remission' since they claim it can't be cured as such.If you still have only a few tumors in your liver PLEASE look into either RFA or targeted radiation therapy. My dr's discouraged me back when I was a good candidate and now it's spread so much the centers won't accept me - I'm trying herbal and the Breuss diet (very hard to stay on it though, as I had a gastric bypass years ago) and am still somewhat mobile and healthy but every chemo I've tried was ineffective.Quality of life should be your biggest concern - don't be TOO miserable now just to get a few more months of being sick at the end of your life too - take time and enjoy life, see your family, LIVE! And if you can beat the dam* tumor while you're at it then more power to you.I need to update it now but I have some details of my fight up on my website at goldwing-world.com in the 'personal' section, including a lot of the research I'd done on various treatments. Every tumor and patient is different unfortunately, so you may respond when others won't but the most important thing of all is to make up your mind what you want to do AND DO IT. We all die someday from something ... those of us with this disease become more aware of that then many, and if you let it that can be a great eye-opener to really living and enjoying what you have.John Bunton, Active Cancer Fighter ...

Thanks, John for these words. My dad is very close to the end and hasn't been able to speak for a considerable time. I hope the things you expressed are in his heart, even though he can't communicate it.Thanks,Kim

I wouldn't address longevity at all. As you can see from reading this board, people live for a very long time with cancer. The worst thing you can do is think you have "x" amount of time. Refuse to die. Just do it and you will live.
