RAI Scan

I found out today that it will take 6 weeks for me to do the low-iodine diet for 6 weeks before I do the RAI treatment and scan. Has anyone had to do it that long? I had a RAI scan in October and I was on the diet for 3 weeks and had thyrogin shots. Does this make sense to anyone? Thanks.

RE: RAI Scan

I was off my thyroid meds for one month, and supposed to be on the low iodine diet for 2 week. But because I really wanted my RAI to work (treatment and scan) and I had received some iodine-containing contrast for a CT a few months before, I went pretty low iodine for several months prior to my RAI and then went "seriously" low iodine for the last two weeks. I did not get thyrogen, I just got really really hypo...TSH of 134...and things seemed to have worked...so far.
