Bladder Cancer in Dogs

I wish I had found this site long ago. My dog, Mister Milo, was diagnosed with bladder cancer 12 months ago. Everyone knows the lifespan after diagnosis is limited and typically varies from 2-12 months. Milo's tumor now is larger than his head. He urinates spontaneously, sometimes in his bed, but has trouble dand pain when deficating. I spoon feed him and monitor him constantly so I can wash his bedclothes and give him encouragement. It's really hard watching him in pain....I'm not sure what to do. He is on a diet of wet food only with a couple spoonfuls of yogurt a day. He takes piroxicam which seems to help and a stool softener called colace. Anyway, I'm just heartbroken and caring for him so actively is really taking it all out of me. I'm not sure what the right thing to do is anymore...I just hate watching him suffer.

I have a Bichon Frise who weighs about 16 lbs. I give her 3 heaping tablespoons of lowfat organic cottage cheese mixed with1 tablespoon of Flaxsse oil (highest Lingon). I cannot tell you the improvement I have seen in Sugar since I started giving her this odd but valuable concoction. My dog did not tolerate Piroxicam very well - instead she takes Previcox which she seems to be accepting without problem. We also give her Denamarin (which is the improved version of Deramax). Once in a while she will start acting oddly or urinating frequently. That's when we put her on an antibiotic. This really helps turn her around. She seems very happy and acts like a puppy - at least for now. I really cherish every moment I have with my very loving Sugar. I hope your dog is doing well. Sugar's Mom
