I had a total thyroidectomy as well as some lymph nodes removed last year due to papillary carcinoma. What your feeling is normal scar tissue. It does get better. Massage your neck, do some neck stretching, and eventually--maybe several months--it will feel much closer to normal. It's been a year, and I can even still feel a little "lumpiness" when I swallow or sing. My surgeon and doctors say this is completely normal--scar tissue just takes a while to break up.
