Treatment Starts

Todd gets his 1st Chemo treatment on Monday. I am so incredibly nervous, I can’t even imagine how he feels. He developed a bad respiratory cold from the anesthesia during the laryngoscopy surgery and is just now starting to recover (still has a bad cough). I am hoping that this will not amplify the side effects of Chemo. We are waiting for the results of the CT scan that creates the radiation scope in order to start the radiation. Due to the long distance we have to travel to Miami and the 8 hours to administer the Chemo, we decided to stay in a hotel in Miami and return the next day. This way Todd can just rest as soon as he is done. Can someone explain to me how he may feel after the first day of Chemo? I am so scared on what to expect, I would rather know in advance so I can be prepare to take care of him.

Assuming that he will receive all the anti-nausea meds and that he will be taking Cisplatin he might feel crummy but ambulatory. I would usually feel like crap for about five days after. My Cisplatin was administered with an overnight in the hospital to make sure that I stayed properly hydrated. Good luck.Rob J.

Linda & Todd: I received Taxol and Carboplatin every Monday and never got sick from it. The radiation kicked my fanny after 3 weeks or so, but the only time I got sick from chemo was after the very last treatment only. Ron
