Side Effects of Carac and Efudex

Yesterday was my last day of treatment with Efudex...THANK GOD...this morning when I woke up, I thought I had a fight with Mike Tyson, after washing my face the swelling under my eyes had gone down. Today was bad, I didn't want to do anything, my face was hurting so bad. Today was just one of the days of being irratable and just not myself, probably from not being able to get a good nights sleep. What makes this worse, is that I have sleep apnea and need a cpap machine at night...well..I can't even think about putting that mask on....YIKES...so the snoring keeps me up and grrrrrrrrr just about everything else. Hopefully this burning sensation is over soon. I found that taking a pain killer does the trick, and applying the vaseline gives relief of being able to open my mouth. This has had to been the worst 2 weeks by far. But thanks to this thread, and the helpful information, and hearing what other posters have to say, I am looking forward to the great results that everyone seems to be having. Thank God, I do not have to go for weeks like some others have to do. The last couple of days, I almost wanted to quit...it seemed like I just couldn't do it anymore because it hurst so bad. But like they say...it has to hurt to get better. Good Luck to everyone.

I had such a hard time with Efudex that my doctor had me try Aldara and what a difference! It still looks bad but no pain! It also seems to last longer. It's been 6 months from the first time I used it and that area (left side of face) is still clear. I will never go back to Efudex if I have a choice.

I did the Aldara route and in 3 years, every spot came back - with friends! Had to do 12 weeks Efudex. No fun, but heard it is a 93% success rate.
