RE: heating up cancer cells to cure it

by apriljeff on Thu Feb 05, 2009 12:00 AM

This is a very promising procedure, however the term "microwave" sums it up best. The heat has to be directed at the tumor...or cancer. Sitting out in the sun during a heatwave or soaking in the sauna or hot bath will not heat you up inside and just makes you hot and sweaty.

Yeah, my husband has bumps around the front of his hear, from stitches, and then around his ear to the temple where they open him up.  I guess they flap the ear open during surgery.  He mentioned it at the rad. oncologist said "comes with the territory".  So much for that explanation.  Maybe it will be less annoying after a few months.  He doesn't complain had just mentioned his ear and jaw at the last appointment.  Thanks again, take care and God Bless and protect.

That's exactly how mine was cut! I can even feel one of my screws ON my temple.

The trick is to keep if moisturized. Sometimes I put antibiotic ointment on my scar, then sometimes I just lotion it up with face moisturizer. Keeps the itching down and also the pulling tightness that comes with the healing.

RE: Cost of Chemo meds

My temodar ran about 1000 or so a month. I had to take 2 different mgs and my insurance company only allowed 28 pills of each, since it was 2 different scripts. That left me a few doses short, but at the end of the 28 days I could order 28 more of each and it only comes in packs of 5 and 14. My insurance has been mighty good to me. I have to pay 25 for each script, so payed 50 a month for my pills. Now on 5 days on a month at 300 mgs, that's 3 100 mgs a days which is 15 pills. It only comes in 14 dose, but thank goodness I had 3 pills left over from previous treatment, so that will last me 3 months.

Thank you for your feedback.  Another person on this site, Heather, said maybe it happened during surgery and I am thinking that may be as my husband surgery was right temporal and his ear was sore too around the scar from the surgery.  He also had a sore spot on the top of this head possible from something holding his head in place during surgery.  He hasn't taken any anti inflammatory, didn't know if he should take any with the temador, Keppra and the radiation.  Thanks Again. Donna

I've got a spot on my forehead where I was screwed down. It's been 5 months and it's still there. I was cut right where my ear connects to my head and my ear is still sore. The only thing I was told I couldn't take was aspirin and I can take that now in a headache pill like Cope.

I would not let him drive either.  God forbid he has a seizure will driving and hurts someone.  Not only that but you may be held criminally responsible for breaking the law.

Here are links to the states for their laws

I read all over that website. It says nothing about having A seizure. It is for epileptics. I went to the website for my state and it said nothing whatsoever about any kind of seizure restriction. I don't take seizure meds and have only had the one cluster the night I was dx.

My period was lighter the month on the temodar 5/23. This month, got cramps, just knew it was coming...now it's feb 1 and no period for january. Yay for me!

MY husband dx 12/08-GBM4 - now on day 15 of 30 days of radiation and chemo is experiencing clicking in his jaw when he eats.  Anyone have this problem.

I've had a little trouble with my jaw also following my surgery, I couldn't even open my mouth more than a sliver. Now, 5 months later, it still bothers me and I have a crackling sound when I swallow. I take anti inflamatories and claritin, both seem to help.

I have been following these message boards for some time now.  I appreciate all the info I learn and pull from them.  This is the first time I have written.

My spouse, 55, was dx 6/08 with GBM following a seizure.  Surgery followed by radiation and temodar for 6 wks.  Now in clinical trial for Avastin and taking Temodar 5/23.  He is also taking anti-seizure meds. He has done very well and all has been stable with the exception of bloodclots in his lungs back in 9/08. That seems to be under control with Warfarin.  His last MRI showed significant reduction in the remaining tumor.

My question is driving ability.  He wants to be independent and is still working from our home fulltime.  He wants to be able to go on business trips between treatments.  I try to do most of the driving, but he is getting angry that I am being overly protective. What has been other's experiences with this issue?

Thanks for your advice.

If he hasn't had anymore seizures, I don't see why he couldn't drive. I was dx after a seizure also, with oa stage 3. I started driving again after I felt better and even got some handicap tags from dmv. I never had my license taken away and don't see how anyone actually would, unless they were reported to dmv. I'm not even on antiseizure meds.

RE: Need some advice

I'm doing temodar 300mgs, 5 days on 23 days off. I feel great the whole time I've been taking it...with my zofran. The week I'm done, I just get really tired for about 3 days, then get better and better till I'm back to normal. I was wondering though, do you lose your hair with this high a dose? I've lost some with the radiation, big spots where it went in and went through, but that was also with temodar. I'm wondering if the next round will start my hair loss? I've only taken one round and am due to start my 2nd round this coming weekend. My chemo doctor seems to think I'll lose it all.
