Susan, I heard the same stuff. I even checked with a Mexican dentist in Mexico. I finally went to the University of Michigan Dental Prosthedontics and they said they couldn`t believe dentist and VA dentist said I couldn`t get it done.  If you doubt me, call the dental school and ask a Dr. Razzoog, who heads the school, about me. My name in Ron and I am a Vietnam vet that had stage 4 tonsil cancer. He will veri...

Had the first 4 hour 10 minute surgery September 20th last year. I was put under by an oral surgeon.Had major dental surgery, bone grafting, sinus movement and extractions on top arch. Four screws were put into my bone. Four months later I went back for the second surgery this past January 24th. The four screws were removed and four different ones put in that protrude out from the gum line. Procedure took about half ...

I had stage 4 right tonsil cancer that had spread to lymph nodes in Sept. 2005. There is a salve I was given that really helped my tongue back then. My tongue still has a sore spot and occasional heat, but livable. With saliva glands burned up during radiation, my teeth broke off eventually. I am sitting here tonight with implant rods in my mouth and start impressions Monday after having teeth all removed at the Uni...

Google hospital survival rankings for type of cancer he has. Take him there regardless of distance/inconvenience or you will have trouble forgiving yourself for not doing all you can or could.

I had the maximum radiation allowed and after 5 years of living at the dentist I said the heck with this. I had read and read about how we can`t get implants. The VA where I was going destroyed my teeth more and said I absolutely could not get implants due to the radiation amount I took. Couldn`t take the pain and the fact I was having my teeth continually break off, so I went to a dentist and he said he would do im...

I had the maximum radiation allowed. If you want to fill the spaces you have go to a university dental school (Prosthedontics Department) and they will examine you and give you their view and a plan if you want to proceed. They are much cheaper than a regular dental office. Actually when your implants would be put in, an excellent oral surgeon in a separate department would put them in. Believe me, no one had a worse...

I know there are many survivors of SCC tonsil that have teeth issues and have been told no way for dental implants. Well I rolled the dice and had all teeth on top arch removed and implants put in one week ago. If you want to follow my progress, feel free to send me messages/questions. My surgeon said my surgery was the most difficult he had done. Many teeth were broken off at the gum line by VA dentists and had to b...

I was diagnosed in 2005 with Stage 4 SCC right tonsil/nodes. I will be 8 years out Xmas Eve. I served in the 2nd Infantry on the DMZ Korea and with the 11th Cav in Vietnam/Cambodia. My MOS was 11D Recon. I was sprayed constantly on the Cambodian border. I filed an Agent Orange claim in 2005 and was denied. It`s absolutely redicuous that tonsil cancer isn`t on the Agent Orange list. As my doctor stated, the chemical h...

I didn`t use the trays. I should have. I`ve heard they help. I honestly think even though you are in progress with a doctor, that you should get a second opinion. You don`t have to let your current doctor know. I recommend going to a university hospital if you are near one. Seriously. I was a stage 4 in tonsil and nodes and your description sounds kind of wrong to me. I didn`t have the neck surgery.

Kelly, I am almost 8 years out. What a tough life changing experience, huh? The year after treatment is tougher than the treatment. I want all to feel free to contact me anytime. I feel I can help because I have been where many of you are and or going being 8 years out. The taste will come back a lot or maybe I just learned to think it did. It was one of the toughest issues for me, but it will be better. I swear to...
