RE: Advice requested

by Dean_in_Georgia - September 28, 2008

Melanoma has a path if it spreads, I would recommend reading about Melanoma if it chooses to spread on this site which tells you a path.
Yes, they are tracked, however if you are on 4 different chemos at the same time, on very strong chemos, even though you are monitored, you can still get an infection.

Some chemo treatments side effects are high fever, such as INTERFERON, causes flu like symptoms.  If not a side effect all patients with a 101.5 fever should contact doctor immediatley. You must find out all side effects, you can never take for granite it is something else.  With this you don't have other chances if you are wrong.

INFECTIONS CAN BE DEADLY, Belive me I can testify.  A lot patients fighting cancer lose their life by infections, not cancer.  Chemo brings down the white blood counts(white fights off infections) after treatment the white counts can be extremely low and this is when the infection can jump in. In my situation it went to the heart causing endocarditis.

Peppermint Patties help.

There is a special tooth paste sold at speciality drug stores that also help.

You can be given PLATELETS VIA TRANSFUSION.

SLONE KETTERING CANCER HOSPITAL IS THERE.
I don't know the website, but there is info regarding hospice information that should help, just Google.
While on Interferon the liver is monitored as due to the strenght of the drug it can effect the liver's function, and sometimes treatment is stopped for a week or two until the liver's level are back to normal.
Interferon is not what you need, most cases it doesn't help.

If it reoccurs, go to a major medical facility that is cancer only, don't waste time with the locals. Interluken 11

My son was on the same road map at MD Anderson.  I want to make everyone aware of being on this harsh treatment.  WATCH OUT FOR INFECTIONS? THEY CAN BE DEADLY!!!  Especially when the white counts are basically off the charts, and they white counts fight off infection.  They tell you about being very careful about infections, well I can testify.
