Dear epaine, Neither "Wait and see" nor a doc well versed in pc is what you should be looking for at this point.  Most pc docs know little or nothing about NETs and will not get a good result for you. Dr. Woltering and his Dream Team at LSU is one of the best docs if not the very best when it comes to treating NET's. There is a fellow who posts on the Johns Hopkins online pc support board, Michael-PA, whose w...

Hi tlgoldilocks, So sorry to hear about your Dad.  I would like to suggest that you contact a palliative care doctor at the hospital where he is being treated.  In times past, palliative care docs were referenced only when a patient became terminal and went into hospice care.  Luckily, that is no longer the case.  Many oncologists will refer their patients to the palliative care doc from the begi...

I am sorry your FIL has reached this point.  However, I know that the in-dwelling drain can be a big help in keeping him comfortable at home and avoiding unnecessary visits to the hospital for draining.  His caregiver can be trained how to drain the ascites at home which will be an immense help.  Praying for you, your FIL and the rest of your family.  If you haven't yet contacted hospice, now migh...

My younger sister had surgery for breast cancer one week ago, including removal of breast tissue and some lymph nodes, path report not back yet. Question is this: isn't staging usually done prior to any surgery?  She has not had CT, bone scan, etc.  Is this out of the ordinary? Older sister deceased from breast cancer some years ago so I am concerned.  Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Hi Cindy, I understand both your concern about your hubby's seemingly deteriorating condition and your fear of 'throwing him under the bus'.  My husband was very much like yours.  I would ask you to remember that, unless your oncologist is a complete idiot, she is very much aware of your husband's changing condition.  The doc should be carefully watching the scale, the labs and everything else that is...

Vaya con dios, Rick.  I will miss you and the discussions about the Cubs.  You are gone far too soon. Condolences to Dawn and the rest of the family.

Hey Rick, Great to see a post from you again.  Hope you are feeling well after your little problem.  We were getting concerned about you until Chuck said he had been in touch with you and that you were getting better. Will continue to keep you, all everyone else here, in my prayers. I will be having a knee replacement on Monday, February 13, so I will be gone from the board for a while but you will all b...

Hey Chuck, Thanks for the heads up about Rick.  I was afraid he was having some problems.  But sorry to hear it anyway, always hoping for the best for all my online buddies. I am glad you were able to speak with him, anyway.  I feel like you two fellows are my brothers, so to speak.  I have so much respect for both of you, considering all you have been through, and everyone else on this board fo...

Hi Peter, Sorry about your father.  Patients with pc do have a hard time gaining and maintaining weight,  You can make your own protein based shake for him.  Start with fat free milk, use fat free cottage cheese for substance, artificial sweetener, fresh fruit such as strawberries or blueberries and protein powder you can buy at any health food store.  Also offer him small amounts of food often d...
