Congratulations!  You must be ecstatic!   When we got the 1st set of scans back on my husband after his 1st IL2 treatment they recommended the exact same thing  . . . more IL2.  He did another round and we are now closing in on 2 years of remission.  He is taking no medication at all and they are scanning every 6 months.  This next scan will be the 2 year mark and then they will go...

Don't wait until Feb.  See your oncologist now!  I don't want to scare you but I have a friend who had a couple of bumps on her neck.  She is prone to fatty cysts and thougth nothing of them.  Even her doctor was not concerned.  They decided to biopsy them as a precaution and she has stage IV lung cancer.  She had even just had lung xrays that were clear.  She is in chemo and beati...

Melissa- I'm so sorry about your father.  The best advice that I can give you is to MAKE SURE you see an oncologis the specializes in kidney cancer.  That is so very important as kidney cancer is totally different than other cancers when it comes to treatment.   I don't think they would biopsy.  Most of the time they know.  Biopsy will create a risk of spreading the cancer.  Goo...

It took several weeks for the fluid to go away completely but he got partial reflief fairly quickly. I'm sorry I didn't get to respond before this.  We were on the road for 3 days. You will find the 2nd week is worse than the 1st.  It seems that the side effect kick in immediately right where they left off.  He probably won't be able to tolerate as many doses the 2nd week of treatment.  It is n...

they gave Orville Demoral for the rigors.  In fact, they had the syringe all ready and within 2 minutes of calling for the nurse they were there ready.  Orville gained over 40 pounds through capillary leakage.  The good news is, it did go away quickly.  Thank you for writing about this.  Good bless. Marcy

Barry- Congratulations!  I agree HD-IL2 is the only way to go!  My husbands treatment was a mirror image of yours only Seattle Cancer Care Alliance had him do it twice.  The 1st time showed shrinkage but the tumors were still there.  He was Grade 4 Stage 4.  As bad as it gets.  We are so grateful that we chose this as our treatment. Good luck to you. Marcy

Hi Matlar25- My husband was stage IV.  Sept 1, 2010 they removed his kidney with a football sized tumor attached.  He had mets in the other kidney, both adrenals and both lungs.  It wasn't good.  He started HD-IL2 Thanksgiving week that year.  I wrote a post on this site back then giving a day to day accounting of what was happening.  I wrote it to help others in that same situation.&n...

Call around.  Typically the blood test for thryroid is not expensive.  I get my thyroid levels done every 6 months and it is usually under $100.00.  That's worth finding out.  See if there are low income clinics in your area.

Orville and I live in Seattle, WA and both are in the real estate market.

Orville was diagnosed with stage IV kidney cancer in August of 2010. He had surgery to remove the kidney and a football sized tumor on Sept. 1, 2010. So far he has undergone 2 separate cycles of IL2, this 1st 2 week cycle in Nov and the 2nd 2 week cycle in March.

I am happy to update this (4/4/2012) by saying that the last 2 scans showed a complete remission! The IL-2 worked it's magic! We are now 6 months between scans! Next scan is May.

We have 2 adult children and our granddaugher who is 17 lives with us.
