I am a 7 year stage 4 base of tongue cancer survivor. 37 rads and 3 cisplatin. I have had my peg ever since as I could not swallow at all after treatments. I have had issues ever since but this past year have shortness of breath also. I also can not speak for long periods of time, have a cough off and on and get the foam too. I was also left with Trismus and use tongue depressors daily so I keep what o...

rodrigart I have scarring from rads on both sides of my neck, the radiologist said myself and another man going throught the same treatment as me had the worst burns she had ever seen. They used to dress it with a Jelonet and then cover. I won't describe just how bad it was , but was pretty ugly at the time.As it dried up was told to use glaxal cream.Neck is stiff at times but I can deal with that.

So sorry to hear about your husband. A positive attitude has helped me along my journey with this. Praying for you all.

I like you had stage 4 squamous cell  base of tongue cancer. I had 37 rads and 3 cisplatin. The treatment was harsh but it has now been 6 years cancer free.

Wow I didn't know that the scarring would continue. I had my feed tube since treatment( base of tongue, stage 4, 35 rads and 3 cisplatin) as I couldn't swallow after. I only found out last year ( 5 years out) that I had scar tissue on my lung. Its sort of scary knowing the scar tissue can spread and wonder what damage that will do! Oh well I'll count my blessing that I'm still here !

I also had no surgery, 35 rads and 3 cisplatin for base of tongue cancer but when done the treatment could no longer swallow and still can't today 6 years later .My voice and sinus issues from treatment have worsened over the years though. I can't say that he will have any issues.Every individual is different, hopefully he'll stay issue free. We were just stating what our issues have been like over the years.

I am 6 years out and cancer free but have found my issues getting worse with time. I still have my feed tube as radiation killed all the swallowing muscles  ( did the swallowing and speech thing), my mouth doesn't open very wide (like lock jaw, a surgeons and dentists worst nightmare), sinus issues getting worse and voice at time is terrible. Heaven forbid I catch a cold because I'm lucky I can be understoo...

Hey never give up,and stay positive. I am a 5 year stage 4 base of tongue with lymph nodes affected cancer survivor. No surgery as tumor was too large and would have had to take voice box thus 37 rads and 3 cisplatin chemo. It wasn't easy going through it but heading into my 6th year, hey I'm still here. I pray for all us cancer survivors and patients everywhere.Stay strong.
