  Is he able to write things down as he does them? Could he then look at those notes and make the right decision based on that information? Such as knowing when to take his meds or when to eat his next meal? Would he know what steps to take if, say, there was a fire? I think safety is the most important consideration.   I'm so sorry you are going through this. I just found out Monday my dad has metastatic liver cancer and it is awful, isn't it? He went in for esophageal cancer surgery and they just closed him back up because it was too late. I'm trying to realize that this is how life is but it doesn't help. I'm thinking of you.

  You guys have been awesome to offer such support to a stranger and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. They said it was metastasis. The oncologist may do more chemo. We will know more when she gets the pathology report 48 hours after it was sent. I am so sad for dad and worried about his wife of 34 years. He told her today "we've had a good run.".

  Dad's surgery was today. When they opened him up the surgeon found tumors all over his liver. They ended the surgery right then. He's resting now but doesn't yet know the details. He will be out of hospital in a couple days. The surgeon was surprised the tumors were so big since he was on chemo for the esophageal cancer.   I have never lost a husband but I am the mother of a 24 year old daughter and I can tell you the worst pain I've ever felt was when my daughter and I weren't speaking. It didn't last long but it hurts bad. If you can, please make an effort to tell her you love her. You say you were close once, you can be again. And you both need that. I'm so sorry for your loss, too.
