I haven't posted on this thread in a very long time. I was originally diagnosed w/ an astrocytoma grade 1 in February of 2001. I was having peti mal seizures and had hopes the removal of the tumor would bring an end to all of that. So in March of 2002 I had the tumor removed. After the surgery, I learned it was an oligodendroglioma grade 2. I was told the average life expectancy is 11 years. Well, I'm slowly approach...

Yeah, I have also been having difficulty w/ both short and long term memory. And yes, people have been giving me the "I forget things, too." Man, if they only knew what it is truly like. I momentarily, 1/2 hour really, forgot my phone number the other day. I am really getting the urge to carry a pen/notepad around so I can write down anything that should be "remembered."  I really like the ideas given to stimul...

I hope the results for your son's MRI go well on the 26th. He's definitely been through a lot, but he is proving many wrong by enduring and surviving the things he has had to deal w/. You have a strong son. What's ironic is I also have an identical twin brother. Thankfully nothing like this has happened to him. He is currently a Captain in the Marine Corp, married and has 3 young sons. I am staying upbeat as possibl...

Hello everyone, I am glad I found this website and have been able to read your postings. I, too, have had a grade 2 oligodendroglioma removed. Thankfully my neurosurgeon was able to remove the entire tumor 10 years ago. I was 21. He told me the average life expectancy is only 11 years, but he strongly stressed I should not go by the numbers, because everyone is different. I also made my own decision to not look up i...

I appreciate the advice and support all of you have provided. I will be getting in touch my neurologist this week and schedule an MRI. As one of you said, what can it hurt? One of two things will happen after the MRI. Peace of mind knowing there has been no type of regrowth or treatment for the "return." I wish all of you the best, and I am glad I found this message board.

Hello, I am new to this message board, but not new to oligodendroglioma grade 2. I was diagnosed 11 years ago and had it entirely removed 10 years ago. I was 21 when the tumor was  removed. My neurosurgeon told me the average life expectancy for a grade 2 oligodendroglioma is 11 years. He also stressed the importance of not looking at statistics. Everyone is different. I had MRI's conducted for 6 years and ther...
