I have to throw my two cents in as your story is VERY SIMILAR to mine. I had throat issues for over 20 years. Always told it was a "bad salivary gland" that would likely have to be removed.  Out of nowhere, started having ear pain. Doctors said, no, everything looked fine. Finally a lump came up, and would not go away. My nurse practicitioner decided yes, I should go see an ENT. Two needle biopsies later, ENT sa...

OMG, thank God your senses knew better. I had gone to s regular MD prior to my lump coming up complaining of ear pain. He said, "Oh, it's just the bones in your ear." I am thinking  how have I gone through my first 50 years without ear bone pain? I knew something was wrong, and my ENT said the MD should have KNOWN there  was a tumor growing. Ear pain first sign of a tumor. Frightening. As I've heard declare...

Jamie, Thankfully cancer did NOT kill me but I thought the radiation would! Like your dad, I lose 60 lbs. in 7 weeks. Couldn't down a tablespoon of water without throwing it up. No energy to do anything at all. No taste. Tons of mucous. I was awful. I finished radiation in August 2010, and I remember going on a mini vacay with friends about two months later still feeling awful (and mad about it!)  Still co...

I hate to say but do NOT trust a needle biopsy. I had a lump come up on my neck, and my ENT took not one but two needle biopsies only to declare "not cancer." They thought it was simply a tumor in a gland I'd had trouble with for 25 years, and that it needed to be removed. I scheduled the surgery, and the day of, in the recovery room, I looked at the doctor and gestured "thumbs up?" He shook his head no. It WAS cance...

25 years of chronic infection in my submandibular gland resulted in a tumor. Biopsy and CAT scan said benign; it wasn't! Diagnosed stage 1 adenoid cystic carcinoma with nerve invasion. Tumor surgically removed; clear margins. Undergoing radiation at present, 5 times weekly for 6 weeks. Just started into week 3 and feeling side effects. UGH!!

Two years post diagnosis, and year and a half post treatment, I am cancer free. Like many, still lack the ability to taste, have dry mouth, radiation fried my thyroid so on meds BUT even with all that, I am happy, healthy, enjoying each and every day. You are not the same after having cancer. My view on life changed dramatically. Stay positive. Stay focused on the good. Learn to recognize signs that your body sends. My goal is to live to age 86 like each of my parents. By God, I will. We must find a cure for ALL cancers.
