We went to the Mayo Clinic in MN last year for the same illness.  The Dr we saw there was Dr. Ryan Hurt.  He suggested 3 drs to see in the US ~ 2 are in Lousiville, KY and 1 is in Portland, OR.  The one in Portland is Dr. Robert Martindale who we are seeing and he is amazing!  Not sure who the ones in KY are but could likely find out if are in that area.

My husband has same enteritis as all of you.  He used Tincture of Opium for years and that was the most successful of all of the anti-diarrhea meds for him.  I did not like the "ebb and flow" of taking it though, as he was often in a state of withdrawal which caused paranoia, depression, etc.  He then had major obstruction last year (with weight down to 99# on a 6'2" frame) which resulte...

My husband has suffered from small bowel radiation damage for years with both diarrhea and bowel obstruction.  We almost lost him last summer, as he was in the hospital 4 times in 4 months with obstruction.  We finally found a Dr. in Portland, Oregon that has helped him. My husband had surgery and now has an ostomy and although a major procedure it has given him back his life.  The Mayo Clinic in ...

Hello again,  I wanted to add to my previous message.  My husband finally had surgery in Sept and his intestines were "glued" to the side walls and pelvic floor and grayish in color, pretty much dead.  They were able to remove them and find a small amount of reasonably healthy bowel to create a stoma.  He has been on TPN and a catheter but otherwise doing much better.  The colostomy has been ...

Hello, my husband (cancer survivor w/ radiation enteritis) had a very bad year with 4 trips to the ER.  His blood pressure was very low also, one time it was due to very low sodium and one time it was due to infection.  I assume you have regular blood work but make sure they check ALL of your blood chemistry ~ magnesium is particularly suspect to being low, plus potassium, calcium, B12 and Vit D.&...

Hello, My husband is 7 years past colon cancer but has had the radiation enteritis now for about 5 years.  His symptoms are exactly like yours.  This summer he has been in the hospital 4 times ~ 3 with small & large bowel obstruction, but the 4th time it was infection.  That last time his bp dropped to 85/47 and was low for some time.  He has tingling in his extremeties alot due to mal-a...

Hello, my husband was recently back at the Mayo Clinic in MN ans we saw a Dr that specializes in the science of nutrition and blood chemistry.  My husband suffers from chronic radiation enterities and also colitis, both cause by radiation therapy during his cancer treatment 7 years ago.  We are optimistic that this doctor understands what is going on and is going to help.  His name is Dr. Ryan Hurt and...

Hello, my husband has has radiation enteritis for several years now and just recently we went to see a Palliative Care physician.  She is awesome and is researching help for him from all avenues ~ skin dr, nutrition, support groups, Mayo Clinic MD Anderson, etc.  We are hoping for some help to make him feel better, as he never feels well at all.  The mal-absorption is a big issue and the diarrhea. ...

Hello My husband is a colon cancer survivor but also has radiation enteritis as a result from his radiation treatment.  We saw an oncology surgeon a few months ago and he suggested a drug called octreatide, which is an injection.  It treats short bowel syndrome where the symptoms are the uncontrollable diarrhea, same as the radiation enteritis.  There is another called Gattex that just became ava...

Please see my previous posting discussing some various drugs we have found.  We are seeing an oncology surgeon and he suggested the Octreatide injections.  We just have to find a way to afford it.  You can also look at Gattex but it is very expensive.  I would check into these.  I would also try to find a medical hospital that is a teaching hospital, as they seem to have more to offer and are...
