RE: Bladder Removal

by daleman1955 - March 09, 2012

My consultant has told me he would like to remove my uretha as a small percentage of people who have had bladder cancer go on to get cancer of this. Has anyone else had the same advice, and how is this performed???

Bladder and prostate removed, along with some lymph nodes and seminal vesicles on 15 April 11. Now, Feb 12, I am as healthy as I have ever been. Have spent six weeks in Arizona where I have played at least 12 rounds of 18-hole golf. The urostomy is fine, I am totally accustomed to it. Thanks for the note. Lynn

Glad to hear all went well Lynn.  I, like yourself was of the opinion that all would be lost after having such drastic surgery, but we are both alive!!! Our partners have still got us with them & that is the main thing. I keep it in my head that the cancer is in a bucket now and not in my body and at the last scan that was still the case. Good luck & remember a large percentage of the illness is in the mind. All the best, Anthony.

Hi My dad is 52 and getting he's bladder removed , next week and he's very nervous ...Is there anything that I should get for him food , and what to expect after surgery ? He's getting the outside back ? Thank you ...

Just read your message & i presume your dad has had the op. I had mine removed in June, i had my CT scan in December & it came back normal. Has his consultant mentioned that he may well have another op shortly to remove the uretha, as it now serves no purpose? Cancer of the uretha is a pretty nasty one & 2 in 100 go on to get this AFTER having bladder removed.

Lynn,

I'm glad to hear that everything went well and you're home now. Also glad to hear that you're cancer free!

Good luck with the healing process. I'll be praying that your recovery goes well.

I had mine removed, along with my prostate & 20 lymph noads. I was walking after 3 days and virtually back to doing most things after 3 weeks. Has your consultant mention having another op to remove the uretha, as cancer of this is a pretty nasty one and 2 in 100 get this after bladder removal?

My husband has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. The cancer is not inter muscular yet,  however several doctors are recommending that he get the bladder removed. Has anyone been treated with BCG?  Can anyone give us insight on recovery time after surgery and what we can expect?
