My husband was scheduled for the MIE which turned into an abdominal and cervical (neck) incision. I do not do well with blood. I was very worried about caring for him at home. The Dr. arranged for a Home Health Care nurse to come the first night after he was released from the hospital. Thankfully, the intake nurse pushed to have a nurse come in the morning and the evening to pack his wounds wet to dry. They came to t...

My husband goes for his 3 month CT scan with contrast next month. He is 5 months post esophagectomy. He has not able to lie flat for more than 5-10 minutes. Anyone have the same issue and any problems having scan done? Thank you!

My husband is 5 months post surgery and pretty much eats everything. He even gained weight. The only thing he seems to have a real issue with is swallowing. He had a few dilations done which helped. Blessings, Shelly

My husband, 44,  had a total esophagectomy May of this year. It was a hard surgery, but get through it he did. I was amazed and awed by his determination and strengthen to fight the biggest battle for his life. Like you, we also have 2 children. Both girls, ages 8 & 11. I know from our conversations they helped propel him forward to have the surgery. You see, both of his parents had esophageal cancer. ...

My husband had a leak but it was in his neck. Yes, they did allow that to heal on its own. They reduced his oral intake and reopened the incision. I remember his surgeon saying that an anastomotic leak in the neck was easier to deal with. Were the specimans sent for bioposies? I requested a copy of the pathology report and the stage was on the report. We didn't know the exact stage until after the surgery. Shelly ...

My 45 year old husband had the surgery on 05/31/2012 and 06/01/2012. He had early stage adenocarcinoma arising from Barrett's esophagus. I don't think anyone can be completely prepared for this surgery. In my heart, and I am sure my husband feels the same way, I believe the surgery was the only way to give him a second chance. God bless you both as you move forward.
