I am so sorry to hear you have rectal cancer. My husband did not have a temp. ileostomy. We told the surgeon that he really didn't want one if at all possible. The surgeon told us it depended on how healthy the tissues looked inside. We left the decision up to the surgeon. I think getting a second opinion is always a good idea. Radiation and chemo is pretty standard for rectal cancer. My husband had 6 weeks of Chemo ...

My husband goes about 4 times a day. It is also semi-solid. He is starting to sit a little more each day. I don't think anything is normal about the recovery. Everyone is so different. My husband still has a lot of pain from the healing of his resection. According to our surgeon, the recovery from this type of surgery is slow.

Hi Gail, Saw the onc the other day. GOOD NEWS!!! No more chemo. Since his path report came back with 0/22 lymph nodes no cancer and his Staging on the path report was pT1N0M0 he didn't feel Jeff needed any more chemo. We saw the surgeon today and expressed our concern about Jeff not being able to sit and having night sweats. He is now taking antibiotics for a week to see if that helps. If not, he will need to have a...

My husband had surgery 16 days ago. No temp. illeo. He is doing pretty well but isn't able to sit for more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time. He is on pain meds but has to take them every 4 hours. He is still in pain even when he is laying down. Going to surgeon today but thought maybe someone has some thoughts.

Yes, Jeff is bound and determined not to let cancer get him down. He really wants to get back to our "life." Doctor really didn't tell us much. Told Jeff to eat whatever he wants to. But we are trying to stick to bland foods. Doctor did say it could take up to 1 year for his system to figure out his "new" plumbing. Not sure about the chemo yet. We see the onc tomorrow and then go for a second opinion a week late...

It's almost been two weeks now since surgery. Jeff has been walking about 1 mile a day for the past few days. When he comes back from his walk he hurts a bit. But that is understandable for the surgery he just had. Wasn't a good day yesterday for the bathroom. I am starting to track his food and the timing for the bathroom. He is on a low-residue diet right now.Notper doctor orders.  However, he did add blu...

My husband had surgery last week. He was in the hospital for 3 nights. His surgeon used the robotic da Vinchi Surgery System. He has 6 cuts total. Five small ones in his stomach area and a longer insicion - about 3"- in what we like to call his bikini line. He didn't have to have a temp. ileo. The surgeon said his tissues looked really healthy, so he felt it wasn't necessary. He's doing great. He was walking the day ...

My husband completed his radiation/chemo on April 30th. Did pretty well until the last week. A little queasy. No burns to his skin. We have now waited the 9 weeks and finally have a surgery date of Monday July 2nd. The surgeon has told us that his tumor has shrunk to the size of a pea or maybe it's just scar tissue. Can't be sure until surgery. He is scheduled to have a Robotic Assisted LAR surgey using the DiVinchi ...

Hi Gayle, Hope you are feeling better these days? How is the chemo?  My husband has all his energy back. It's so hard to believe that he  has to have surgery when he feels so good. Not sure if he will have a temp illeo. His tumor is 8cm above the denate line. How high was your tumor? We go back to the surgeon on June 15th and at that time he will be have a sigmoidoscopy. So we will know how much the tumor...
