I am sorry to hear the bad news for your sister and yourself. Hospice nurses are specially trained in the final stages of diseases and can answer a lot of the questions you have. Normally lung cancer spreads to the brain if not found early enough. I would spend as much time as possible with her and talk about good memories you both have, tell her everything you want her to know and enjoy this time together. Hospice n...

Hi NSC Stage 1, I too was diagnosed with Stage 1a and 1B in 2011 and had my left upper lobe removed. There were no signs of metastisizing, and I just went for my 6th month check up with my oncologist and she told me, there is little chance that this is going to show up someplace else, so do you want to start coming for a CT scan once per year? My reply was no, I want to go the full 3 yrs with a CT scan every six mont...

Hello Robert, I read your post about your doctor being evasive. Sounds like mine was until I finally had to tell her, I want the truth no matter how bad it is, I cannot stand for someone to sugar coat things for me. She answers my questions, but does not give extra info. My surgeon did the same thing until I told him I wanted the absolute truth, so he gave it to me. Sometimes, the patient has to be blunt with their d...

I am so sorry for your loss, but your Mom is no longer in pain and her suffering is over. I lost my Mother to lung cancer 17yrs ago and to this day I still miss her almost every day. The only thing that time does is ease the pain of loss a bit. What keeps me going is knowing that one day I will see her again. Hopefully that will give you some comfort at this terrible time. I will keep you in my prayers for the Lord ...

I'd like to say that since your wife is young and very healthy otherwise, she has a greater chance of winning this battle with cancer, than an older person would have. What I asked the oncologist was 1. What are my chances of survival in percentage? 2. What are the side effects with the type of chemo I'm getting? 3. What can my caregiver expect? These are a few of the questions I asked my oncologist. This is a very g...

Hi Nancy, I understand completely how you are feeling, I felt the same way when I was diagnosed with the same type of cancer and it was also in my left upper lung. I was diagnosed in January 11, 2011 and my left upper lobe was removed February 23, 2011. I know it seems as though things are moving slow, but I feel sure as soon as you see the thoracic surgeon, he will want to schedule you for surgery right away. I must...

I wll definitely keep your family in my prayers. Advancements in cancer treatment are being made everyday. Since your daughter is young, she is better qualified to fight this battle than an older person would be. May the Lord be with you all. Granny60

Hi Chichi, You have found the right site to get help and info from others who are either battling lung cancer or have gone through the treatments and are in the process of being tested every few months or so. First of all let me tell you that not all lung cancers are caused by smoking. Toxic chemicals and inhalants, etc can also cause lung cancer. I understand how frightening the diagnosis can be, but new advancemen...

Hi Janie, I am really sorry that you will have to go through all of this with your Mom. I can only tell you what I went through and maybe that will give you some idea of what to expect.  In the final 2 weeks, my Mother stopped knowing who we were, she saw and talked to family members who were already deceased. This is all normal for someone who is dying. She stopped eating(had no appetite) and drinking. Then she...
