  Hi Bob For what it is worth I started off with a blocked ear that wouldn't unblock easily.  Then it moved onto being an ear ache and then facial neuralgia on the same side.  I was given medication for the neuralgia which continued to get worse until my throat started to get sore and that was put down to thrush.  Later when I couldn't swallow a tiny tablet they diagnosed T4 N2 base of the tongue cancer...

  Due to the position of your radiotherapy it might be worth looking into how to keep the skin away from skin - if that makes sense.  I had all my lymph glands removed from my armpit years ago, although no radiotherapy to the area.  It is a pretty tough op to get over!  TOok me a while to get my arm moving again but it eventually did with some gentle and frequent work.  You can also get burn dressin...

  GOod luck with that ... skin care is important to start as soon as you start your radiation.  :)  I used to use saline soaks ... make up a bottle of saline water and leave it in the fridge and used sterile face cloths and just leave it on the area that was getting hit.  Take care Julie

  Even if saliva returns the properties of it change, according to what I have been told.  If anyone has their own teeth it is important to have good oral hygiene.  Most seem to do high flouride in some way, either gel trays or toothpaste.  Personally, I use a swedish tooth brush and high flouride toothpaste twice daily and in between I use a sensitive toothpaste.  I carry a tooth brush and toothpas...

  Hi melanomore I dont have any experience with your particular cancer but it is hard having a rare cancer.  Hopefully you can take heart in that we have all been diagnosed and had that experience and can at least relate in that way. :) Julie

  Hi Mary I cannot really help with saliva production as that is up the gods.  It may or may not come back.  In the meantime biotene is usually considered one of the best products to try although some have used others and gotten good results.  Saliva production post treatment waxes and wanes a bit also, aswell as taste buds.  Your husband might find using a camelback a good thing as it can be place...
