Would like to know how you are doing now??

I am looking for some people who have had base of tongue cancer with the surgical treatment options.  I hear of so many people who went the radiation/chemo route - I am beginning to doubt if I made the right discision?? I had my surgery on 9/3/2010.  I had 3/4 of my tongue removed and replaced with skin from my left wrist, graft from my leftleg.  Trach for a month, feeding tube about 6 weeks.  Had 19 lymph nodes removed, 1 tooth extracted, gum and jaw broked to remove tumor.  I mainly use ensure mixed with ice cream and protein powder 2-3 times a day.  I can eat soft items such as snack cakes, cakes, cookies etc - trying solid food a little each day - Have trouble moving it to the back of my throat to swallow.  Have to crush all my meds.  I would love to hear from others who had the surgery!!

I was diagnoised with tongue cancer in July 2010...After being misdiagnoised for 2 years.  Everyone said it was nothing ...some saying it was Lichen Plantis.  Do not mess around - Make sure you are under the care of a ENT -Ear,nose & Throat specialist ..and first on the list should be a PET scan.  Do you know where it is located" --Has he has a biopsy?  I am now 6 months into my treatment and would be glad to be there for you should you want questions answer ..keep posting!

just checking how i recieve my replies

Make sure that you follow up with the doctor you are seeing ...but if they say it is nothing or give you cream to use etc ....please go ASAP to a Ear Nose & Throat doctor.  I was misdiagnoised for 2 years until I was diagnoised with stage 4 tongue cancer ..I had 3/4 of my tongue removed and am still in recovery with 19 lymph nodes removed as well ...Keep us posted and if you need support/advice we are here!
