RE: Update on my mom

Update on my mom

by mollierose - March 20, 2012

Hi everyone!  I haven't been on in a long while.  Just a question.  My mom just got done with her 5 weeks of radiation & 24 hr drip of 5fu. and in a few weeks will start with another 6 weeks of Gemzar. (she did this in the beginning)  They call it a "sandwich" method.

Anyway She's been doing great with everything! Little to no side effects until this week right when she ended the chemo and radiation. She started to feel extremely tired and nautious.  Is this normal?    They seem to say she'll be back to good in about a month but she feels she's recovering slowly.  Just curious to hear how people did after chemo/radiation.  We thought we were lucky with no side effects until now. We are still so thankful because even this isn't that bad.

(Just a re cap she had the whipple done in October and had stage 2 in the head of her pancreas)

Hi I haven't been on in awhile but I just wanted to give you all an update on my mom.

My mom just finished her 1st cycle of chemo.  In two weeks she will begin a different chemo. it's called 5fu along with radiation.  The chemo is a 24hr. drip.  She will be on this regimen for 5 weeks.  When that is done she will do another cycle of chemo. (the same as what she just got done with.)

She is doing excellent!! Feels great and is very optimistic. The dr.s are optimistic too. They feel that they are taking precautionary measures.

The one weird thing out of all this is that she was just diagnosed with Diabetes Stage 2.  They say that sometimes it's a temporary thing due to the chemo.  So I guess we'll see when it's all done.

Has anyone on here developed Diabetes after the Whipple Procedure?

(background..my mom had stage 2b tumor and had the whipple on Oct. 4th.)

I'm continually praying for all of you and I hope you do the same!  I pray this cancer never returns to my mom's body!!!

Take Care,

Mollie

I forgot to add..

Has anyone been on 5fu or had a 24hr drip??

Starting Chemo Journey

by mollierose - December 05, 2011

Well hello all!

Today is the day we start a new journey.  My mom had her first Gemzar treatment at 8:30 this morning.  She will be on Gemzar for 8 weeks then 5 weeks of Radiation and 5FU and then another 8 weeks of Gemzar.

I would just like to know everyone's stories or side effects from this chemo.  And how effective it all was.

We are very thankful to God that they see no signs of cancer anywhere and all this aggressive treatment is preventative.  Sad thing is mom is feeling great the last few weeks and now will she feel awful?? Any suggestions or stories are much appreciated.  Just to let those know who don't know she had the whipple done on October 4th and it was stage 2b.

Merry Christmas everyone and remember I am praying for you all too!! Mollie

RE: Gemcitabine

I meant to say my mom is starting gemcitabine but I believe it's the same thing as Gemzar.

Anyway has anyone heard of 5fu???  She'll be starting that the beginning of the new year.

Hello all.

So my mom is going to get a port in next week and they will start Gemzar for about 6 weeks.  After that they are going to do radiation and 5Fu Chemo treatment for 5 weeks.  Then after that Gemzar again.

I am starting the "new path"  of chemo with my mom .  The dr's are actually really excited cuz they believe that my mom's case is cureable! They actually said that to her which I was shocked because they never use that word!!

Please pray for the duration of this.. And Know I am praying for you all!!!!

pancreatic leak

by mollierose - November 04, 2011

so my mom who had the whipple 4 weeks ago. she  had to go in last week for a drain to be put in cuz there was a leakage which was collecting fluid and created a pool.  She has now had it in for about a week .

I'm just wanting some more info. on this.  Has anyone had a leak after a whipple and come through it?  I know she's feeling better but sometimes it makes her nervous and myself when you read all the problems with a leak on the internet.

Any info will help!! Thanks.

Mollie
