  My mom has started Sutent for kidney cancer that has spread to the lungs.  She was on her 3rd week and is having a hard time tolerating it. She has a fever.  I took her to the doctors and they said her platelet count was low. She has to stop Sutent for now and she had to have a platelet transfusion. Has anyone had any experience with this issue? I'm hoping it is part of the process.

  I joined the forum just a week ago. I think just having someplace to write all your stuff down helps you not to feel alone. Read through all the scenerios. There are a lot of good posts and encouragement in them. You are young which I think helps. Sutent seems to be doing some good for people and not everyone has severe side effects.  Hang in there and keep reaching out.

  Hi Tanjaz, There is some good advice in all these posts. As Bob states, I wouldn't listen to statistics either. They are coming up with new meds all the time. My mom has just started Sutent 50 mg 4 weeks on 2 weeks off. An oral pill once a day.  You are young and probably will be able to tolerate the meds better than my mom. She's struggling with acid reflux symptoms. Many of the posts show that everyone reacts...

  What would be the reason you either decrease dosage or switch from 4 weeks to 2 weeks on and 1 week off? Is it because of the severity of side effects?

  Hi Victor, My mom's renal cell cancer is also back after 20 years of no cancer and having removed the one kidney back then.  July she was diagnosed with a tumor on the remaining kidney and has spread into the lungs.   Hang in there.  My mom has the kidney part but so far not the bladder part so I can't give you any experience there. :-{  I know that I have talked to many people who were given a certain amount of time and that was not accurate.  Doctors shouldn't give out time periods since they really don't know.   My mother has also recently been diagnosed again after 20 years.  She is starting her 3rd week of sutent and is starting to have bad side affects.  My family has had some kind of flu so it's hard to tell what symptoms are from what.  She has diarrhea and a fever. Tomorrow I hope to get her to the doctors. She does not weigh a lot and I'm wondering if her dose needs to be cut in half.  Right now sh...
