Oh wow, thank you all so much.  Yes, the Dr has forbid her to be alone. She has to have someone with her at all times. Her daughter is an adult (22) and her son is 17. She has been enjoying motorcycle riding for the past few years and has been blessed with the most amazing core group of friends that LOVE her and do all thaqt she needs and more. She lovingly calls them her "misfits", which I'm sure comes from ho...

Hi group. I know a few people have been kind to respond to me before and I'm hopeful they will again. I visited with my friend yesterday. She has an inoperable glioma on the brainstem. She described it to me the way her NO did for her. She said it's like a thick and hard "jellyfish" sitting on stem and the tentacles are intertwined all through it. She's doing "ok", I guess. Here are a few things I've noticed and ma...

Thank you both for replying. I thought those were kind of harsh things to say to a patient. She's getting a CT today to set parameters for radiation and also being fitted for the "cage" for her head to help aid in the precision. I'm going to have to google that one as I have no idea what kind of cage she is talking about. This all seems to be moving at warp speed since they said it was a Glioma. At first, w...

I don't understand this. I'm so confused. She says that they will NOT be doing a biopsy at all. Too dangerous. Why? Why not at least try? So they're just going to do the radiation and check again in 3 months? That's not enough. Why can't they do more? I'm so lost. "No biopsy. Not operable. No time frame given yet,its all about making my life comfortable now.new scan in 3 months for possible time frame,if responsive ...

If you all would kindly send a prayer, my friend will appreciate it. She found a NS in Orlando that will (hopefully) help her. All she knows so far is that she has a Glioma near her brain stem and mid brain. Her Onc said it appeared to be low grade. Now, today's appointment, he might be willing to get a tiny piece of the tumor so they can test the cells and provide a more thorough staging and aggression, as well as h...

Hello. I hope you don't mind me chiming in with a question also. First of all, I hate this. I hate cancer. My friend was just diagnosed with a low grade glioma but it's inoperable and cannot be debulked due to its location. She is about to begin 5 treatments of radiation a week for a minimum of 6 weeks. I don't know anything about this stuff. I know that she is taking medication that is managing her symptoms but she'...

Hello again. I received new information from my friend re: the next steps for her. I'll type her words below: "turns out the tumor cannot be removed or debulked in anyway due to the extremely tight location in my brain. any attempt could kill me or even worse, leave me in a vegetative state. I will be starting radiation 5 days a week for a minimum of 6 weeks, this is to reduce the swelling to make me comfortable and...

Thank you both, so much, for your replies. Sorry to know that you both have to see loved ones with this dreaded beast. My friend has gone for the MRI's and Mammo's, etc, to see if the cancer was a met from somewhere else. Yesterday she still didn't have answers but was being referred to a neuro doc, so hopefully this is a step in the right direction. I do plan to help her out with some of this necessary (non health r...

She is getting MRI today of her lung, pelvis, abdomen, etc... She's also getting a mammogram and pap culture. Her oncologist wants to find out if this is a primary or a met from somewhere else. Is that normal? I feel like she should be getting started on treatment, not running around. But, I'm a recruiter, not a doctor. Thank you so much Kate and Mary, I appreciate your replies more than you can even imagine. Thank y...

Kate, I was reading your reply to this post. My friend (adult female, mid 40's) was just told she has a low grade glioma in her brainstem and mid brain. Told surgery is not an option but that's all we know so far.  She met with her Oncologist and is going for more tests to put together a strategy. Your post has me hopeful that she is in a decent place.  I mean, I get it. Cancer is there and it sucks. But, ...
