Congrats, Jerry!  Do you remember where your tumors were located?  I notice you, I guess, recovered from a thyroid condition.  I'm guessing it was hypothyroidism?  I'm curious because one of my tumors was on my pituitary gland, which led to my thyroid condition.  I'm curious if your situation was the same or similar to mine to see if I may have a chance at my pituitary recovering later on in ...

Hey Colin!  I honestly forgot about our discussion on here regarding whether or not the tumors were hereditary.  On one of my recent follow up appointments with my Radiation Oncologist, I asked him the same question.  He was telling me that while the tumors themselves are not a hereditary issue, the fact that we have proven to be susceptable to cancer is.  So it's in our DNA somewhere that we are ...

Have any of you heard or found a web site that discusses whether or not germinoma tumors can be hereditary.  I've been trying to find some information on it.  But, haven't come across anything yet.  I'm hoping the reason I haven't found anything is because they aren't genetically passed on.  But I want to make sure for my son's sake in the future. Thanks! Brad

I had my shunt placed before knowing the type of tumors they were dealing with.  My doctor expressed the same concerns in that tumor cells could more easily spread.  However, I was suffering with such severe hydracephalus that he was more concerned with the possibility of siezures that could be fatal.  So, we decided to go ahead with the shunt.  One of the big things to consider is the age of...

Good luck to you as well!  I hate hearing that you've had to go through similar issues.  But, you're right!  It is nice to hear from other people who know what you experienced.  I'm guessing the radiation was also successful in treatment of your tumors?

I was diagnosed last year with 2 germinoma tumors, at the age of 31. One in the pineal gland, the other in the pituitary gland. I now have a shunt, 4 screws in the back of my head, diabetes insipidus, hypothyroidism, and a couple of other hormonal issues that I was left with. Thankfully all the tumor cells were removed by surgery and 28 rounds of radiation. The tumors were caught on a family vacation to Orlando, ...

I was diagnosed with 2 germinoma brain tumors at the age of 31. After having a shunt installed and a craniotomy to remove the tumor on my pineal gland, I went through 28 rounds of radiation to remove the pituitary tumor. I completed treatment on August 19, 2011 and have been cancer free since. I am still in the window for recurrence. But, doctors are very hopeful for continued full remission.
