Hi Porkman, thank you for your reply - you are an inspiration in the way that you are facing and coping with your situation.  Jack has been fortunate with Sutent - on his 2nd cycle and his main side-effects have been mouth ulcers and fatigue (although this round has been less so).  His skin also became quite yellow but this only lasted for a few days.  We saw the specialist a few days ago and he was pl...

Hi,  Have they said why the tumour is inoperable?  As you can see from my reply to midmommon my husband had clots in his chest which made the op too dangerous so they did an embolisation which is the next best thing.  I would certainly ask for another opinion.  My husband was told the evening before Good Friday that the arranged op to remove the kidney was cancelled and that he only had months to ...

Thanks to everyone for your replies.  We have so much to learn when travelling this road and it is so good to hear from others. The reason that the tumour has not been removed at this time is due to the blood clots that my husband had in his chest, which the surgeon said made the op too dangerous.  He is now on his second cycle of Sutent and fortunately has not had too many side effects.  We have been...

Hi, my husband (67) was recently diagnosed with cancer in his left kidney, with mets in his lungs.  The tumour is very large but the surgeon said he would not remove the kidney/tumour due to my husband having blood clots.  Instead they did an embolisation to cut the blood supply to shrink the tumour.  He is now on Sutent - just finished his first course, not too many side effects, though he has a cough...

Hi Craig, thank you for sharing your story - I am so pleased to hear that things are going well for you on Sunitinib - Jack is on 50mg 28/14 (first cycle) and so far has had few side effects, (skin looks rather yellow, and a couple of mouth ulcers) but he is just relieved to be receiving some treatment as the surgeon had advised him to have 'quality time' as he could not remove the tumour - thankfully his senior coll...

Hi, We are trying to find others who have had an embolisation procedure on their kidney rather than having it removed.  My husband was due to have his kidney removed last month but due to have a number of blood clots in his chest and the fact that the tumour had grown aggressively in just 4 weeks the surgeon decided that the op would be too dangerous and so carried out a procedure to cut the blood supply to the ...

Hi Netty, so sorry to hear that your husband has been having such a difficult time too.  Jack is just about to start his 4th week on Sutent, (first cycle) and will then have 2 weeks off.  He has got on quite well with it so far - the main problems have been with the fatigue, but that may also have been due to the fact that he is anemic and has just had 2 units of blood, and his skin is quite yellow.  T...

Thanks Andy - have watched the video and will certainly do more research!  Not sure how much interest/help we would get from the doctors though if we wanted to explore this as part of Jack's treatment!

Apologies that this is a long introduction but as with many of you the story is a complicated one and it would be so helpful if we could make contact with others who have had similar experiences, in particular with the ‘embolisation’ procedure, with Sutent or with the possibility of asbestos being the cause of the cancer in the first place. My name is Sue and I live with my husband Jack in Cornwall, Englan...
