When word got out that my husband had stage 4 colon cancer a "well meaning" neighbor approached him with some quack herbal cure as well (for a hefty fee of course).
Don't be naive. If these herbal potions and voodoo worked there would be no cancer patients in hospitals and cancer clinics. Trust in God and your oncologist.

I am a devout Jew (and wife of a wonderful man with colon cancer) who believes in the power G-d's miracles. May your blessed father be granted a full and complete recovery.

My husband had a bowel resection and it took him a while to return to his usual bowel habits. A change in diet proved helpful in controlling the diarrhea (yes he wore pull-ups for a while too). He's an avid follower of the mediterranean diet (how ironic since that's supposed to prevent colon cancer) - but this diet does a real brake dance on a sensitive bowel. What helps is to reduce the bloating/gassy foods; namely ...

Forget the "risk factors", have the colonoscopy and get the results. Think positive - I know this sounds like a cliche but it works. (Think good and it will be good). It may not be cancer. But even if it is, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself (like Churchill said). When my husband was first diagnosed with colon cancer the doctor speculated he'd have a year to 15 months to live. I made him swear NEVER to sa...

My husband has the same condition as your Mom and when he was on the Avastin (plus CPT11 and Xeloda) - age 74 at the time - he did NOT have walking difficulties. Suggest you speak to the oncologist immediately. Prayers to both of you

Dear L: Your daugher's case sounds similar to my husband's initially. He was 73 with relatively minor symptoms when diagnosed with a stage 4 partially obstructive bowel tumor plus liver mets. His first chemo treatment consisted of Oxiplatin plus Xeloda for 8 rounds. This temporarily eliminated all the tumors but when the surgeon resected his bowel tests showed malignant cells in 6 of the 12 nodes. He was drug free fo...

Hi L,
Actually, we live in Montreal, Quebec (Canada) under a universal medicare system that is extremely overburdened. Does Scotland have universal medicare? Are you in a similar situation? Here, the government did not pay for the Vectibix; my husband's oncologist got him into a program sponsored by the drug company which paid for the treatments (which are once every two weeks by infusion). It's called "The Victory ...

My husband is in a similar situation. Liver mets very widespread so surgery not an option. After two types of chemo combinations the onc put him on a tumor-slowing drug called Vectibix. He had good results for a couple of months (T count below 3); now T count is rising again. He's scheduled for a CTscan to get the full picture (sometimes T counts fluctuate for reasons other than tumors). So far he feels quite well. T...

My husband has colon cancer with liver mets and has been on 3 different combinations of drugs, plus bowel resection. There are so many drugs out there plus alternative treatments it often occured to me that a real cure - something at the genetic level to stop cancer in its tracks - is probably out there but is being prevented from reaching the public because too many people are making too much money from the "c...
