RE: Lung mets and cough

by wallgev - 14 hours ago

Stilll coughing my brains off....today was really bad, I was throwing up I coughed so much, but I finally got it calmed down with all my little tricks. If I don't talk I am much better usually but I love to talk......been on the Inlyta going on 3 weeks so I am hoping it kicks in soon....... I was diagnosed in 2012, jsut a fluke as my only symptom was a cough, not as bad as this though and the lesions in my lungs are smaller then they were to start and I don't have new ones....it is just weird....I'm a nurse practitioner so it is even worse as a little knowledge is worse than none at all....I can come up with so woppers of scenero's of what is going on in this lungs......The votrient worked really well for 2 1/2 years.....I guess I was really lucky there.  I just try to keep positive. Thanks for the reply.

thanks so much for your speedy response.....I am on an inhaler similar to Advair....did you take the torisel alone as I am on a new oral drug Inlyta, as votrient stopped working...it worked for me for 2 1/2 years.....what made you itchy the Torisel?????

I have kidney cancer , and lung mets diagnosed in 2012 . I had my R kidney removed and have been on Votrient since. All my scans up to the recent on October 29th have showed shrinkage of area in the mediastinal areas. One of my initial symptoms was a cough and now the cough is back with avangence. I am now on Inlyta 5mg 2 times a day. I am waiting for this stuff to kick in but in the mean time anyone have any luck with the cough control. Presently I am taking an inhaler with a steroid , delsym cough syrup, Tessalon Perles and to many hard candies and cough drops....my teeth are going to fallout!!!!!! I have seen a pulmonologist , my oncologist an ent but they don't have any answers...oh I am allergic to codeine ....I am 64 and don't want to cough the rest of my life if I can help it....any suggestions from others that may have the same problem Thanks so much, Gevy

I jsut reread my message, and want to correct that I am on 800 mg...i must have chemo brain!!!!!

just wanted to let my fellow Kidney Ca buddies that I have had good results with using probiotics with votrient. It seems to be helping with the GI side effects, especially vomitin and the diarrhea. I have been on 1200mg of Votrient for approx 2 years and over that time have had quite a lot of trouble with the "poison pill" as I call it. Although it is not too pleasant to take it is doing the trick shrinking the lesions that  were found in my lungs when first diagnosed, I also had my R kidney removed when these were found. I tried numerous remedies to help this situation. Presently I take my votrient early am, approx 6-7 am to make sure it is on an empty stomach.  I take the rest of my morning meds at about 9-10 including 1  probiotic capsule. I use the "one a day" brand, just because I am familiar with that company. I am not indorsing it but it seems to work for me. I tried myself off of the probiotic the first of the year and all my old complaints came back with avengence, but once I went back on it they again quieted down. Now I still have times when I feel crappy and some GI complaints  but over all I think it has made a difference and I have very little voming which was a big problem before. I do have the whole white hair thing,( it hasn't changed that) which is kind of freaky even though I am orginally blond..... anyway if you are having problems tolerating this med, try a probiotic, it works for me.......

Sise effects from votrient

by wallgev - July 21, 2013

Does anyone have a magic cure for the horrible GI side effects of this drug??? It is working but I am almost at the end of my rope with it.....I feel like my bathroon is now my  full time job, with no pay!!!!!....I have lost about 50# which I had to lose but now I am hearing if you lose any more we may need to lower the dose. And I m not skin and bones by any means but I do look good...but just feel like crap, I am on 800mg a day for about 1 year. I have been off of it a couple times for a few weeks due to abnormal blood tests and a cardiac issue and it was like heaven. It continues to work with shrinkage of the mets in my R lung. Any sugguestions on modalities that I might try or things that have helped others.....The Bathroom Queen!!!!!
