Contributing Factors

Researchers have associated some behaviors and lifestyle choices with a higher risk for liver cancer. These include:

  • Being obese
  • Drinking a high quantity of alcohol over many years
  • Using anabolic steroids

Smoking and taking birth controls may also contribute to the development of liver cancer, although their relevance is debated.

It is important to remember, though, that even if one or more of these factors applies to you, you may never develop liver cancer.
