So here is my story... Two weeks ago I wenk to a walk in clinic because i have a sore throat with an ear ache. For 2 months. Finally broke down to get it checked out. I dont go to doctors. Dr said was just a swollen throat and sent me kn my way..  my wife said hes a quack.. go someplace else.. well i work at a place with an ENT. So i causually stopped in to have him check out my throat. He took one look and said you have a tumor.. looked again and said im sorry.. you have a tumor.. asked if i smoked. I said no. He said i believe you have hodgkins lymphoma and we need to get that tonsil out.  Things didnt sink in until he said. Im sorry again anx that there is a high survival rate... wow.. now what. When a dr says im sorry its never a good thing.. so i got a ct scan...surgery

is next week and now me and my wife are trying not to lose it.... they will biopsy it when its out..ct zcan was to see stage of cancer...and now we wait.... i know what the outcome will be...not too many tumors on tonsil are benign... what am i in for

reissens,

I am sorry you are here seeking answers to your questions and you will have pleanty more I am sure. As to what you are in for all depends on the results of your surgery and type of cancer you might have. You won't know until you get the results.

After the results a plan of action will be presented to you and generally a few options to choose from. It can get a bit bumpy, but lets not get the cart before the horse for now.

Please keep us posted as to the results, ask questions here and we can answer some of them as you post them. Keep a positive attitude, it is a huge weapon in all of this. Take someone along with you for your Doctor appointments and take notes. It gets hard to remember everything thrown at you.

I had Base of Tongue cancer in 2004

My Best to You, Your Wife and Everyone Here

I know the road ahead might get bumpy.... the waiting is hard right now.  I went for my preop physical.  The doctor looked in my throat and said...wow!!  You are very lucky you seen a doctor when you did.. and told me one step at a time.   Gonna try and tbink positive. Will keep posting when i get news... thanks again

My husband and I thought just strep throat, ENT said same thing. Put him straight in the hospital to remove following morning....but had attached to wall of his throat as well as tonsil. If you do find it's cancer and start chemo and radiation,,..by all means get a feeding tube first so your wife can insure you get liquid nourishment as soon as needed. Praying with you.

Will do.. i got CT results.. not a big surprise because if what ENT had said... size of tumor is 6 cm covering 50 %of my airway.. that is scary.. also said scattered non enlarged lympnodes throught neck... well surgery is  this next wed.  Trying to stay positive

I had tonsil cancer 19 years ago. I had a feeding  tube which is a good idea to get your nutrition after the surgery and during my radiation treatments. I had it for 14  months. Before your surgery ask questions ,you have to be your own advocate. If I were having that surgery in this day and age, I would ask about the IORT radiation that they do at the time of surgery. Now I am experiencing the effects of having 37 radiation treatments. My muscles in my neck are getting fibrous,I can't eat normal foods because my epiglotis is not working and I have spasms in my neck all because of radiation . So ask the questions and do your research,it's your body and you have the right to ask.

Hi!

Many of us started the same way you did - my story is almost identical.  Sore throat for over a month finally decide to go to doctor - and BAM!

The best news I have (because cancer is such a scary word) is that if you're not a smoker it's likely HPV.  Why is that good news?  The survival rates are screamingly HIGH!  Like the rest of us - you're (very) likely to beat the darn thing!

Now the bad news - it won't be fun.

BUT...I'll trade a great prognosis with difficult treatment ANY day over not so difficult treatment but 50/50 chance of survival.

My hunch is you'll have the chemo and radiation after surgery.  GREAT luck and please keep us updated.  We are all here to help!!

Hi.

I had squamous cell cancer in right tonsil. My treatment was radiation everyday for six weeks.  Once a week had a chemo treatment with the erbatux drug, typically used for rectal cancer. Great drug. No loss of hair and absolutely no vomiting at all. Ask your Doc about erbatux.  Treatments are bad, but dont get down.  As my nurses told me "thereis light at the end of the tunnel" My doc also put me on Citaliphram whis a mild antidepressant. Reallyhelped. If it is diagnosed as Squamous cell feel free to email me at\ to ask anyquestions.

Keep your head up and carry on.

Hi I was diagnosed with tonsillar cancer in December2016. I had surgery to remove the tumour, tonsil, some of my soft palate and base of tongue in January 2017.Also had 26 lymph nodes were removed from my neck . As i had caught it early ( first felt a sore throat in October 2016) my surgery was a complete success and there was only a micro depoisit of malignant cells in one lymph gland I escaped radiotherapy treatment.

The surgeon told me this had probably been developing internally for approx 1 year before the tumour became obvious.

I have made a full recovery, I have my second 3 monthly check up next week. I am also a non drinker non smoker and used to run marathons so this is nothing you have done to your self , it is just back luck. It could also be a HPV driven tumour . Take your surgeons advise and best of luck..
