Base of Tongue Cancer

I have just been diagnosed with base of tongue cancer and am in a dreadful state of anxiety. I am 53 with 2 grown up children and last year started a new relationship after a long marriage. My new partner is so supportive but the fact that my left lymph node is enlarged leads me to believe that my time is up. Was advised that my lump is about the size of a 20p piece and can not be cut out. It has to be a combination of chemo radiation. The treatment looks gruelling and the future quality of life makes me wonder if it's worthwhile going through it all. I love life but am already feeling a need to withdraw from the things that I love. I am seeing my GP tomorrow and should I be getting a course of anti depressants immediately?

Young Pa,

I am sorry about your recent diagnosis. I recommend you post in the forum for the head and neck cancer patients to get a lot more responses from patients with this specific disease. The good news is this cancer is probabaly caused by the HPV virus with a high cure rate of 90%.
